Thought about it. But decided to install a battery in the tongue box. I keep a solar panel on it connected to a battery tender controller.
I have a very similar sized winch and had no problem pulling a 3500 pound car up a grade onto the trailer.
Ordered September 27th. Build March 3rd. Have the sticker. Supposed to be at the dealer between the 16th and 22nd.
Limited High, HDTT, 40/20/40 2nd row.

There is a whole other thread on this issue.
I can't directly answer your question. But the 7 pin does have one listed as "hot". That should be the one that will charge the trailer battery when connected to the vehicle.
I use a small solar panel and a Battery Tender solar controller to keep mine topped off.
Both of the above suggestions should be taken as gospel. The other thing I will put in here is maintenance. "Both of the vehicles are new!" you say? Yes, but proper tire pressures, making sure the trailer hubs and brakes are right, making sure "Maxie" gets fluid changes, brakes and shocks looked...
The maiden voyage for towing with the Expy AND the new trailer. From Akron to Detroit isn't much of a challenge.
This winter's project car is now safely tucked away waiting for me to find that Big Block to pop in it. And to get rid of those wheels!!!!
I would definitely go for the brake controller.
20 miles may not seem like much, but someone can pull out in front of you in the first block or the last. Some are plug-n-play and of course, they do cost more. They're worth it.
There are multiple threads here dealing with trailer towing...
I copied this over from a thread in the 3rd Gen Forum:
I have a '16 Limited with heavy tow package. I'm shopping for an open car hauler that with the car, will be around 5000 lbs. Total payload of 1240. (4 people X 160 Avg = 640 + 600lbs of tongue weight= 1240 with 1357 payload on the sticker.)...
Preference? Amsoil 5W-30. Either Motorcraft or Amsoil filters. No, I'm not a dealer.
Want to quantify the difference between Fram and Motorcraft or Amsoil (Made by Wix) filters? Take them out of the box and weigh them.
It's a clear indicator of what's on the inside. I have been involved in...
While we're on the subject... I have a '16 Limited with heavy tow package. I'm shopping for an open car hauler that with the car, will be around 5000 lbs. Total payload of 1240. (4 people X 160 Avg = 640 + 600lbs of tongue weight= 1240 with 1357 payload on the sticker.) Most of the time just 2...
Going through this train wreck of a thread has been pretty excruciating. There is a lot of bad information here, and enough good to sort of make the read worth it. For some anyway. Couple of points:
- The PCV system has a "dirty" side and a "clean" side. The dirty side pulls the vapors out of...
I was looking to drop my '16. I found VERY little data or parts out there. Tons of stuff out there for lifting!
I don't even think the old "hack off a coil" process would work with the coil overs. If you find anything, post it up!
Those pictures should be the poster for "CHANGE YOUR FREAKIN' OIL!!!"
I met a guy a couple years back that leased his cars. He NEVER took them in for an oil change!! 2 years and 24K miles!! He knew he wouldn't be keeping it, so WTH?? His engines probably looked a lot like those pictures...
I have heard of people going to Rotella because of this. It is engineered to be a diesel oil. The additive packages (Not just ZDDP) are going to be different because of this. If I recall, the biggest difference is in the type and amount of detergents used.
Like I said, do your own research and...
There are bearing shells offered for some engines so you can bore the rod big end as a "reconditioned rod". Don't do it. Modern conn rods are dirt cheap.
Aside from the cost advantages, the parting line has 2 or 3X the surface area at the parting line compared to a machined interface. High-end...
I would most certainly run one of the "specialty" oils I mentioned above. All of them offer an oil made for older engines. Unless someone put a TON of time and money into it, that little Chevy is flat tappet all the way. I'm pretty sure they didn't start with roller tappets until the mid-to-late...
This^ exactly. Short story: The K Mart across the street from Daytona Int'l Speedway used to be the #1 retailer of Mobil 1 in the country. Many race teams used to just go over and buy it. In the mid-90's, the API spec on motor oils changed to remove the zinc and phosphorous to keep the catalysts...
It's actually more about the quality of fuels available in other countries. You would expect fuel in Mexico to be consistent due to PeMex being a state-run refinery. It's pretty much the opposite. You never know what you're getting. In Canada, the weather plays a role in fuel quality. Long-term...
