I realllllly want to love the truck, but man is this thing glitchy!

Now that’s a statement. When a BMW is considered more reliable? You know you have problems.

    Running Boards

Ah. Hadn’t considered that the chip shortage could have something to do with it. Definitely a possibility. Only one final output circuit. Simpler sensing circuit. how hilariously ironic it would be, if the total cost of the resultant recalls ended up costing more than what Ford “saved” by...

    Running Boards

An easy fix would be to program the BCM’s with a ‘kid mode’ option for the running boards. If you select ‘kid mode’, the running boards (both sides) deploy as soon as the vehicle is unlocked—or even as soon as it senses the presence of a key fob as you walk up to it. And then the running...

    Running Boards

Thank you for the clarification. And yes, that design change was clearly not well thought out. I think this is a case of an engineering solution to a problem that didn’t exist. And to make matters worse they didn’t test it out with a parent of small children. I’m sure the assumption was...

    Running Boards

And yes, obviously the only running board that should actuate is the one on the side with an open door. Mine on my 2018 work exactly as they should. And they stay up in the stowed position if I change the setting, also. Why Ford decided to screw with this is beyond me. Almost seems like...

    Running Boards

Eh. Yes. It wasn’t exactly clear—which is why I asked the question, Francis. He states that his granddaughter was attempting to get in the other side. He does not clearly state that she had actually opened the door yet. I am envisioning a little child hopping up on the running board and...

    Running Boards

Yeah, what?! So both sides come down when a door on one side is opened… and then both sides go back up., when the first door is closed? Even if a subsequent door has been opened on the other side? What am I missing?

Anyone know how or where I can get this piece?

Yeah you’d have to source it from the manufacturer. That multi pin connector will have the manufacturer information stamped on it, along with the model number. Probably have to buy the whole connector housing to get the locking lever, but that’s a heck of a lot cheaper than a harness. I’d...

Random hard shift followed by error message notice

Yes. Once in a blue moon a random shift would just slam enough to startle passengers. And this was just gradual acceleration. Casual driving. I don’t know what caused it. Or whether it was related to the eventual failure of the transmission. But after a couple years of progressively worse...

    2018 Max W/Hard Tranny shifts

They provided a loaner clown car for the duration—which made me feel great about paying the monthly payment on my $81,000 Expedition for two months.

    2018 Max W/Hard Tranny shifts

Yep. They had mine for 8 weeks, tried replacing just the MCV-but the rest of the transmission was just too far gone. The final result was that the cost to rebuild/repair was not worth it, and just installed a new transmission.

    Towing after transmission replacement.

FYI, when Ford replaced my transmission in March I asked this same question of the service manager. He just said “I’d give it a little break-in period”. Real helpful. FWIW, they did flush the transmission cooler and all lines without me asking them too.

Cam Phasers or Turbo Wastegate Rattle?

I’m a little confused. From your post, it looks like you had the cam phaser job done on your F150, then traded it for a super duty. So your cam phaser worries are over. This is a Ecoboost engine concern. But yes, a cam phaser replacement job should always include the timing chain, and...

TSB 22-2145 - Certain 2018-2021 Expedition & Navigator, Built On Or Before April 29, 2021, + Other Models - Momentary Neutral-Out Condition In Drive

That is excellent news. Glad they were finally forced to cough it up. I have about 5 months of driving on my new transmission now and all appears to be right. I haven’t towed with it yet because I wanted to let it get broken in easy.

TSB 22-2145 - Certain 2018-2021 Expedition & Navigator, Built On Or Before April 29, 2021, + Other Models - Momentary Neutral-Out Condition In Drive

Ahhh… misery loves company. :D Back in December 2019, I started experiencing this. Was pretty furious about it, because it would only happen once in a while (dealership couldn’t reproduce it), but when it did happen it created a safety hazard because you pull out expecting rapid...

What tires and wheels for towing

This. I ran normal 40 psi in my load range E Nitto’s when not towing and pumped up to 70 when towing the travel trailer. Towed like a dream. The EB 3.5 is a freaking tow beast. Very impressive.

Anyone still have their OEM sway bars stuck in a corner of the shop?

:peace: That’s outside-the-box thinking right there. LOL. I would actually do that—as easy as they are to swap. I mean, I don’t need them anymore, right? The strut spacers? Yeah, you’re on your own there. :rotflmao: Anybody near Charlotte want free Helwigs?

Why is the cam phaser rattle bad?

Agreed. Under normal operation engine oil is ported to the phaser via the solenoid. The amount of oil directed to the phaser is variable, which results in advancing/ retarding the mechanical timing of the camshafts. Agreed. The engine has no oil pressure on cold starts, and relies on the pin...

'21 Platinum "thud" when shifting into 8th gear from 7th

That odd hard shift with very light, or no, throttle input was one of my first symptoms. They tried replacing the main control valve (again) And eventually replaced the transmission. Here was the final diagnosis on the R/O

Bad Cam Phasers - Causing CEL and Surging?

Wow. I hope you weren’t footing the bill on all of this. Unbelievable how many major problems these things have in the first 3 years. If this was Toyota, heads would ROLL ! And the company would make sure the customers were all sufficiently made whole.

Anyone still have their OEM sway bars stuck in a corner of the shop?

After a long a torturous relationship, I am finally pulling the plug. When my POS gets back from the dealership I am selling it. I love it. I hate it. I am taking off a lot of the “upgrades” and returning it to as close to OEM as practical, to make it more mainstream marketable. I tossed my...
