thanks @JamaicaJoe. During reassemble, I lost one bolt to the throttle body on top of the manifold (fallen to somewhere on the back of the engine). So I just put 3 bolts on. I was going to either buy new or try to get a bolt from a junk yard later. Could that be related?
I have not touched the...
Today I tested with a multimeter following this excellent video:
I saw that my passive draw was 220 mA. I have not figured out which component is the cause of this yet. For now, I'm disconnecting the negative battery connector every time I park it.
I've had a roller follower seizing on its core and damaged my camshaft eventually that cost $5400 to fix. Before that thing blew, I always heard the lifter tick like noise.

Now that that was...
I recently replaced the IMRC, at the same time replaced spark plugs, serpentine belt and cylinder head temp sensor:

Drove it for 80 miles each day on 2 consecutive days with no problem. Then...
I'm having a hard time to push the fuel rail onto the fuel injectors with the o-rings. I tried to use a rubber mallet to hammer on top of the fuel rail to no avail. Tomorrow I'm going to try spray some WD40 on the o-rings and then hammer it with the mallet.
Is there a better way to push the...
My car went through this:
https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/car-started-shaking-violently-when-turned-on-this-morning.42302/
I ended up paying $5400 for that fix (camshaft, roller, valves, etc)
After that, I drove it a few times and only noticed a bit of rough idling when I start the car...
I'm back to work on this thing again. Finally took out the intake manifold! Took out the old IMRC valve, then went to install the new one. On the part it actually says that "DO NOT ROTATE BY HAND". As you can see from the picture showing both the new and the old, without me manually rotating it...
Progressing some more now. Got a few questions that I hope to get some help on:
1. Unscrewed most of the bolts of the fuel rail and took out 5 ignition coils. Then I wondered if I needed to keep the order of these coils. If I switch one with another, would that be a problem?
2. In order to...
hey guys,
I just started on this job. I've drained the coolant and took off the ducts. Attached here is what I see now. I was looking at youtube videos of people doing similar job on f150 or other models and it looked different from mine. I'm thinking next I'll need to:
take out the thing...
Wife was driving on the highway and the car lost power suddenly. She was fortunate to be able to pull over to the side safely. I got there and when I tried to restart it, it was running rough. Not knowing what the issue was, we had it towed to the shop. They looked at it a few days later and...
@TobyU @Jozef Zoldos Thanks for the responses. It looks like I can do this. Will give it a shot. Will probably shoot you guys more follow-up questions once I start working on it.
I asked for clarification with the shop and the quoted hour was about 15 hours for the job with a rate of 138/hour.
Anybody thinks this is doable individually? Approximately how many hours am I really looking at if I do it myself?
Thanks guys for the feedback. I live in the bay area in northern California, not exactly a cheap area.
How hard is it for me to do it? Is it even doable by an individual? Do I need specialized tools?
Yeah, I am not too concerned with the parts cost (although I can definitely save a couple hundred if I buy them myself compared to the quote). I'm more curious about what you guys think about the labor cost for doing this job.
hey guys, got the car to another shop. They took off the valve cover and saw that one of the rocker arm was broken and a tensioner for the timing chain was broken. The camshaft on the right was also damaged. Here's the quote they give me for replacing the camshaft, all the rocker arms and the...
