Great post, very helpful! My crappy factory shocks are leaking at <50k and dealer wants 3k to replace them.
I also find the factory shocks to be extremely harsh in city driving (although good on the highway).
Have you found any negatives to the Bilsteins compared with the factory shocks? My...
Hi all,
Dealer said my rear brake pads need replacement and quoted me $550.
Also, they recommend that I get the brake fluid flushed at the same time.
Car has 55k miles on it.
1) Is the quote price reasonable for a rear brake replacement service?
2) Do I need the brake fluid flushed? Not...
Expy highway ride is pretty good. Ride on city streets is poor, in my opinion, on the base suspension. Would not recommend an Expy if ride is a top priority for you.
Hi all,
I’ve only towed once in my life (22’ travel trailer), and it was with the Expedition.
Am thinking about doing it again, and am debating about doing it with the Expy or my Ram 1500 crew cab.
My thinking is that the Expy would be better since it is shorter by approximately 10 inches...
Does anyone know if the standard XLT without any special packages has an electronic (not mechanical) LSD?
I wonder if lack of an LSD of any kind is contributing to the issue. The electronic LSD brakes the wheel with low traction to allow the other wheel to get some power, and is basically free...
Got some snow and ice recently and figured the Expy should do well with 4WD auto. Certainly, if I needed top performance in the slow I’d invest in snow tires, but I feel like the Expy should be able to deal with the relatively mild and infrequent snow here. But even on a minimal incline, 4-auto...
What’s odd is that the button supposedly was redesigned and it is still failing. We had ours replaced with the new part number and it sticks too. Not sure why it is so hard for Ford to design a button??
Can anyone explain the use case for the flip-up rear window on the tailgate?
I had assumed that maybe it was for carrying really long items, but then I read that driving with it open can damage the glass or hinges.
And it can’t really be used for ventilation since it doesn’t roll down.
So...
I have the radar cruise control. The implementation is just so-so, but I do use it quite a bit.
Sometimes, when it applies the brakes in around town driving (low speeds, usually under 20 mph) it makes a pulsing sound sort of like the sound the antilock brakes make if you slam the brakes.
But...
Hi all,
Sometimes I want to listen to Bluetooth headphones but also have CarPlay plugged in (for Maps). For example, my kids might be in the back sleeping and I don’t want to wake them.
However, it seems like I can’t connect to my Bluetooth headphones because CarPlay overrides it.
Has...
Which rear suspension did you drive in the Tahoe. They have 3! Steel springs And regular shocks, steel springs with magnetic shocks, and air suspension.
The higher end ones cost crazy money, so I’d be keen to see a vase springs vs base springs comparison.
Hi all,
I usually like having the digital speedometer as my default screen. However, just last week, it started always displaying the same towing screen at start up regardless of what it showed when the car was shut off.
Anyone seen this behavior before? Not sure why it started happening all...
Former F150 owner here. Turning radius vastly superior on the Expy. I had to back into every parking spot in my F-150. Can turn into parking spots normally in an Expy.
I just disabled mine after nearly having the tailgate decapitate me a few times. Wasn’t worth it. But truly poor engineering by Ford. Other manufacturers get it right.
If it’s still under warranty can get it replaced. Had mine replaced a month ago. Works well now, I think they updated the part since it was a poor design and a lot of people had the issue.
Doh, I figured it would be easily accessible. Well, I managed to get the plug out and connect it, but the TBC won’t turn on!
Anyone have that issue? On the video, some F-150s do not have power to the trailer brake plug by default, and it is major surgery on the vehicle to fix it. I sincerely...
I have a connector designed to plug directly into the Expy’s trailer brake controller, but for the life of me I can’t seem to find where it plugs in! I looked under the dash and found the OBD port, and A few inches to the right of it is a green led lamp for ambient lighting. But no TBC plug!
I...
Ahh, the whole time I assumed I needed my own cable. Makes sense that it would come with the trailer. You guys are seriously awesome. Wish I could send a beer over the internet. Thanks for your help!
Doh, ok that’s for helping me figure out what that cable was for. I actually special ordered a cable off eTrailer that is apparently plug and play for installing a brake controller box (which I also bought...Tekonsha P3).
But in that case, what cable would I use to connect the plug next to the...
Hi all!
Will be towing for the first time ever soon (rental travel trailer). Am excited but also clueless. Was getting my stuff together and found this. It is my understanding that it is a 4 way connector....I think?
The trailer rental folks said I need a round 7 pin connector. My questions...
Thanks all!
To answer the question above, I am replacing my stock shocks because the ride is awful (I posted on this in the pst, but basically I think there is something wrong with the shocks because my Tahoe rode 10x better, and other Expeditions I’ve been on also ride better). Not interested...
Am ready to bite the bullet and install these on my 2019 Expy. However, I read that they require reuse of the OEM spring seats, and that there is some controversy as to whether the spring seats are removable or welded on.
Someone wrote in a prior post: "I took it to the Ford dealership to have...
