Bilsteins and spring perches
I did my suspension over the weekend and can confirm the perch or spring seat is NOT welded or difficult to remove. I put the shock in to a vice upside down and it took a couple wacks of a 3# sledge to get it off. I sprayed some pb blaster in it too so it slid down quicker. This was on a...- wstcoaster07

Expedition Tires for Towing
I tow a 32' TT with a 875# tounge weight and while it towed fine with P rated tires, my Michelin LT tires I put on at 55k miles tow better with a stiffer towing feel. Looks like Bilstein is now making 5100s for the 15-19s!!
Can you explain a bit what you did? It sounded like others had a real beast of a time and either needed presses or destruction of the old strut. Thanks- wstcoaster07

Bilsteins and spring perches
So if I understand this right my 2017 spring perches will not come off without a press unless I tear apart the old one? Is there a specific name for a spring perch press so I can verify where to find one before I start the job? Thanks.- wstcoaster07

Sorry, didn't ask details on that. It sounded like they changed the design slightly since he said I had "the new ones". Didn't verify any of that though since what's done was done and it was a long wait at the end of the day anyway.- wstcoaster07

Well, $227 later they are done. The mechanic at the dealer (talked to him after to ask for tips) said he had to use a couple different hooks/picks small enough to work around the seals but only 2 boots were stuck on the plug and they came off in the end too with the picks. By "a bitch to work loose" what did you do? Just spray some sort of lubricant down the sides and keep wiggling? I spent a good 15-20 minutes on each of the front 4 plugs (didnt spend as much time on the back 2) and didnt get a single one off minus the one I basically ripped out with visegrips...- wstcoaster07

Yeah, sadly I think that's the answer. I am just going to bring it to ford and let them monkey with it. Unfortunately I had the time to do a normal spark plug change but not the time to spend 30min plus per plug. I have a 2017 expedition EL XLT with 55k miles on it. I was trying to do the spark plugs today and everything was going great up until trying to remove the ignition coils. They wont budge...
