$550 to replace rear brake pads: reasonable?

$550? Yikes. First of all you shouldn't need rear pads at just 55,000 miles. Secondly Rock Auto and Youtube are your friend. I've got 230,000 miles on my 2001 Expy (bought it at 94,000 miles) and I've done the front pads twice now and the rears once. About an hour to an hour and a half per axle

    4 wheel drive not disengaging

I realize we're talking apples and oranges but I have a 2001 Expedition with the bigger V8 engine. I have AWD 4H and 4L (I think). I almost always leave it in AWD. But recently when turning it feels like the front tires are scrubbing like it's in 4WD. Does this also sound lie a vacuum issue? And...

    200,000 mile service

I'm at 225,000 on my 2001. Just normal maintenance at every 3500 miles.

    Heater hose

I feel for ya. My heater core started leaking all over everything inside the dash, the floor, you name it.

You mind if I ask you how much are you asking for your Expedition?

    P0304, Misfire

I had a similar problem with my 2001 5.4 liter Expedition. Turned out it was a miniscule leak from the thermostate housing. When driving it blew the water into the #4 sparkplug hole somehow. Replaced the housing and no more misfires and no CEL

    Unknown assembly needs gasket

My 2001 Expedition 5.4 has the same problem. The thermostat housing (I think it's called) is aluminum and is leaking at the passenger side. Of course the coolent blows into the spark plug holes, causing a stumble and the check engine light to come on. Looks like a big job just to get everything...

"Thunder" 1998 Expedition Build Thread .... fixed pics!!

Oh man... I have a 2001 that I want to try and duplicate your build to. Or maybe just drop it off at your place to do it for me ;-) Just beautiful. I like (and agree) with your Jay Leno look joke.

    My first Ford Expedition.

I bought a 2001 Expedition one year ago. It had been sitting outdoors for quite some time being undriveable. I brought over a set of new brakes (rotors, calipers and pads) and a new battery and was able to drive it home after a couple hours work. Later on I replaced all 4 shocks, the driver side...

    Keep It or Flip It??

I agree with the others, to keep it. I bought a 2001 Expy last year for $900. It had 194,000 miles on it. I replaced the front brakes, calipers, pads, and rotors. Replaced all 4 shocks, all fluids and spark plugs and one front CV axle. All that cost me less than $500. Now it has 207,000 and I...

What truck or SUV can ....

I drive a 2001 Expy with 204,000 miles. Most expensive fix has been under $100.00 But if I were looking for a new truck I'd be tempted with that new Ram 1500 eco-diesel. A friend has ine and is getting 29 mpg on the hiway.(fuel consumption IS important for me)

    140k miles - now what?

    2003 5.4L 4x4 - low RPM shudder / hesitation / poor MPG

I had a nearly identical situation with my 2001 Expy with the 5.4L motor. I had just changed the fluid and filter in the transmission when the miss started only at low RPM. Also fuel mileage dipped below 10mpg. It turned out it was a bad/damaged sparkplug way back at the passenger side rear most...

    2013 Blower Motor

I have 2001 Explorer and my fan stopped working. I removed the fan from under the glove box, thinking I would take it to AutoZone for a replacement. But curiosity got the best of me so I took it apart and it was extremely dirty. So used Brakleen first I cleaned up the motor, put some grease on...

    Front lower control arm replacement

My driver's side front lower control arm just snapped in two. No rust, it's a Nevada SUV. I've never seen this happen before. Any tips on replacing it? Or is there a stronger aftermarket lower A arm I should use. It's a 2001 5.4L AWD vehicle. Thanks in advance

Are there any Issues with Replacing the Spark Plugs in my 2003 with the 5.4 Engine??

The hardest part , to me anyway, was just accessing the pluhs, especially the #4 nearest the firewall on passenger sie. I removed the fuel rail, too off the plastic crap over the intake, then used bungie cords to keep the heater hone and a/c hoses out of the way. Once you get the spark plug...

Planning to buy expedition 2020, any suggestions plz?

Yeah, don't. I have a 2001 and it is absolutely the most trouble prone car I have ever owned and I used to own a lot of old British sports cars. Latest gripe, today the lower control arm on the front driver's side snapped in half. A/C blower motor stopped working a couple week ago. Spent...
