I've put 5w-30 in my '04 eb 5.4l 2v for the past 5 years and it's running great at almost 160k miles. Over time your oil will shear to a lighter weight anyway so I like starting off with a heavier weight.
Oh I'm 100% planning on regearing to 4.56. Just saving up some cash because I want to put in Detroit lockers in the front and rear when I regear. Whole setup will be 4k or something. Almost as much as I paid for the truck!
Should be in my main build post but I have Rancho quick lift struts which add an inch or so and two inch pucks on top of the coil over assemblies to give me ~3inches front and rear. I think the Ranchos are 0.75in for front and 1 in the back but don't quote me on that. Pretty much the max lift we...
If you ever end up pulling the trigger on those post some pics! I'd love to get some measurements so I can fab up my own when I finally have some time.
I don't think you can. I remember someone posted a picture somewhere of the two and one was a bit wider than the other one. Geometry seems to be a bit different. But would be nice to know for sure! One day someone will buy a cheap set on this forum and find out for everyone lol
I put on 35s! I also put some spacers on top of the struts to level it out a bit so I've got a total of 3 inches for the front and back. I removed my middle and rear seats though so there's no weight in the back and the rear sits pretty high, but when I load up my rig with gear it sits pretty...
I've got a few posts about it on my main build thread. I'm really liking mine so far! I've hit some decentltly techicnial trails on mine and they've held up well so far. The adjustable dampening is super nice. Usually keep mine about 75% of the way up when I'm on the road and all the way soft...
I'm looking for a solution for this too. I recently wired up a light bar and ditch lights to some light switches I added to the cab. The lights in the light switch don't shut off with the power since Im running everything straight off the battery. I just pull the inline fuses when I'm not using...
@Vincent Vega havent tried anything but the OEM uppers so far, but keep us posted on what you do!
What conditions does the clunk happen in? When you're going over bumpy terrain? or when you're on the brakes?
Awesome thank you for the pictures! Really helps to see some other reference pictures since I'm still figuring out the plan for mine. Any chance you know the thickness of the plate? Is it aluminum or steel?
I really hate how low our gas tanks sit! I was thinking of trying to move it higher but...
How'd everything turn out?? I'm just getting back from a month long work trip in Costa Rica, haven't touched my expy since putting on the ditch light brackets. Would love to see some pictures of your rig!
Awesome! If by chance the fab shop makes a schematic or design for the gas tank skid, could you possibly share it? I've been having a hard time deciding how I'm going to mount it and what shape I need. Also can't wait to see the pics! Are you going with bolt on skids or are you going to have...
Had some momentum from putting those sliders on, so I decided to make some ditch light brackets and slap those on too! Start out by taking off my hood, and marking where the hood mount holes were on some metal strapping. Then drilled out the holes on my drill press. I tried to make them oval-ish...
Thank you!!! It was a hell of a project but I'm glad they're done! They're pretty solid, I jacked up the truck on one side by the slider and it held the weight with almost no flex even with both tires off the ground! Definitely ready to eat up some rocks
Wish I could help you with the electronics, but if you can't get it working, any chance I could buy the skid plates off ya? I think the police version came with a few different skid plates, do you still have any on your expy?
Awesome man thank you for the very detailed reply! Mine does have the a4wd option but I pretty much only keep it in 2H. Stoked that it actually locks, I'm planning on putting Detroit lockers in my front and rear diffs... When I can afford it lol. Can't wait to have a triple locked offroad rig...
Also anyone know if the BW4416 transfer case is locked when in 4L/4H? Or have any technical documents for it? I've been going crazy trying to find any info about it online, and the service/shop manual doesn't have tons about how it works. I have the exploded view of it, but honestly no idea how...
Once they were all welded up, I went over them again with the flap disk sander, touched up any welds that needed it, and grinded it a bit more to clean it up.
Then wiped it down with acetone
Decided to go with bedliner spray. Projectfarm on youtube has a pretty good video about the best...
Alrighty guys and gals, this has been a LOOONG time coming. But I finally got the rock sliders on! Been working a new job where I travel a lot, but also still working my old job so I've been working 7 days a week for the past 6 months or so. Gotta pay for all my home renovations and Expy mods...
Detroits would be great in the snow! Very predictable when it will unlock. It is 100% locked all the time, except for when one wheel is spinning faster than the other, like the outside wheel will in a turn. Kind of works like a ratcheting wrench. Shouldn't take any getting used to really, just...
Yeah my neighbor actually has power tanks on his jeep, they're pretty cool but I think Detroits are the way to go for me. My expy is purely for offroad fun, the only time it will be on the pavement is driving to the trails, or hauling stuff when I need it. So I really like the always locked...
Definitely, just saving up for them. Going with the Eaton Detroit lockers in the front and rear and am also going to put in 4.56 gears when I open up the diffs to put the lockers in. I think I made a post with the part numbers somewhere. Always try to avoid coming down on a wheel that's...
My local pick n pulls have em for under $50. Would check any scrap yards in your area, not sure about NJ but there doesn't seem to be a lack of totaled 2nd gens in California. There are over 20 that are currently in various pick n pulls within 50 miles of me
The line on the rear bumper is where I was thinking of trimming it similar to how I cut off the front bumper. But it would expose the tow package and not increase my departure angle due to the hitch. Just going to wait until I eventually get around to fabing up a custom rear bumper with a swing...
