No other leaks that I could find thankfully. Was thinking of plugging this hole then running it again just in case. Plugged the smoke machine into the brake booster line
Did a smoke test, plugged the air box and ran the test. A bunch of smoke started pouring out of this hole in the egr. Is that supposed to happen? Coming out of the brand new one I just put in, the old one has the same hole.
@Hamfisted any idea if this is normal? I figure you know pretty much...
Yeah smoke test is really the only other thing I can do. It's been in my Amazon cart for a year or two now, just pulled the trigger on it and I'll test it next week. Was thinking the brake booster vacuum line would probably be the best place to do the smoke test. Any other spots I should put the...
Aaaand still have the slightest of rough idles. No chain slap at startup, and I replace my oil with full synthetic 10w30 every 3000 miles or less. (I live in a pretty warm area, never gets below freezing so I don't use 5w30). No breather leaks as far as I can tell, I haven't smoke tested it yet...
Just talked to Kyle at Blue Lake Offroad. I'm not affiliated with them at all, but it looks like they actually make bumpers for 2nd gen expy's. Pretty crazy that he's the only guy doing it for these trucks. If anyone is near Georgia and wants a free rear bumper too, he'll make you one if you...
Anyone replacing their iac valve while you're at it? I just took a look in my throttle body and I'm thinking it's time to take it off, clean it out really good, and while I'm at it replace the egr valve and all the gaskets. While I'm in there I'm thinking about replacing the iac valve too, it's...
I've put 5w-30 in my '04 eb 5.4l 2v for the past 5 years and it's running great at almost 160k miles. Over time your oil will shear to a lighter weight anyway so I like starting off with a heavier weight.
Oh I'm 100% planning on regearing to 4.56. Just saving up some cash because I want to put in Detroit lockers in the front and rear when I regear. Whole setup will be 4k or something. Almost as much as I paid for the truck!
Should be in my main build post but I have Rancho quick lift struts which add an inch or so and two inch pucks on top of the coil over assemblies to give me ~3inches front and rear. I think the Ranchos are 0.75in for front and 1 in the back but don't quote me on that. Pretty much the max lift we...
If you ever end up pulling the trigger on those post some pics! I'd love to get some measurements so I can fab up my own when I finally have some time.
I don't think you can. I remember someone posted a picture somewhere of the two and one was a bit wider than the other one. Geometry seems to be a bit different. But would be nice to know for sure! One day someone will buy a cheap set on this forum and find out for everyone lol
I put on 35s! I also put some spacers on top of the struts to level it out a bit so I've got a total of 3 inches for the front and back. I removed my middle and rear seats though so there's no weight in the back and the rear sits pretty high, but when I load up my rig with gear it sits pretty...
I've got a few posts about it on my main build thread. I'm really liking mine so far! I've hit some decentltly techicnial trails on mine and they've held up well so far. The adjustable dampening is super nice. Usually keep mine about 75% of the way up when I'm on the road and all the way soft...
I'm looking for a solution for this too. I recently wired up a light bar and ditch lights to some light switches I added to the cab. The lights in the light switch don't shut off with the power since Im running everything straight off the battery. I just pull the inline fuses when I'm not using...
@Vincent Vega havent tried anything but the OEM uppers so far, but keep us posted on what you do!
What conditions does the clunk happen in? When you're going over bumpy terrain? or when you're on the brakes?
Awesome thank you for the pictures! Really helps to see some other reference pictures since I'm still figuring out the plan for mine. Any chance you know the thickness of the plate? Is it aluminum or steel?
I really hate how low our gas tanks sit! I was thinking of trying to move it higher but...
How'd everything turn out?? I'm just getting back from a month long work trip in Costa Rica, haven't touched my expy since putting on the ditch light brackets. Would love to see some pictures of your rig!
Awesome! If by chance the fab shop makes a schematic or design for the gas tank skid, could you possibly share it? I've been having a hard time deciding how I'm going to mount it and what shape I need. Also can't wait to see the pics! Are you going with bolt on skids or are you going to have...
Had some momentum from putting those sliders on, so I decided to make some ditch light brackets and slap those on too! Start out by taking off my hood, and marking where the hood mount holes were on some metal strapping. Then drilled out the holes on my drill press. I tried to make them oval-ish...
Thank you!!! It was a hell of a project but I'm glad they're done! They're pretty solid, I jacked up the truck on one side by the slider and it held the weight with almost no flex even with both tires off the ground! Definitely ready to eat up some rocks
Wish I could help you with the electronics, but if you can't get it working, any chance I could buy the skid plates off ya? I think the police version came with a few different skid plates, do you still have any on your expy?
Awesome man thank you for the very detailed reply! Mine does have the a4wd option but I pretty much only keep it in 2H. Stoked that it actually locks, I'm planning on putting Detroit lockers in my front and rear diffs... When I can afford it lol. Can't wait to have a triple locked offroad rig...
