Maybe purchase the 4x4 selector switch out of a 97-98 Expeditions. Those can be switched to 2WD. Also works on later ones. Or remove the fuse.
That’s what I did on my ol 99 when the chain transfer case chain started slipping during acceleration.

All I can say is, once you get started it shifts flawless. No problems when cruising nor when flooring it. It shifts real smooth and without any interruption. Just like it should be.

The Torque Converter probably still is the factory one. I didn’t replace it and the previous owner as well.
Read some stuff online about what the symptoms of a bad TC are and was thinking it’s to different from what I experience.
