I’ve seen that one. On the way home, about 2hrs of continuous proper operation. That TSB I’m sure is a pricey repair. They have to take the dash out from what I understand.
Our 2019 MAX AC is acting funny, and I’m curious if anyone has run into something similar.
About an hour into a road trip, with the AC on and the fan set to high, the fan will suddenly drop to what feels like the low setting—even though it’s still set on high. At the same time, the air coming...
Our 2019 has the same issue…AC works fine but only for about 15mins, then blows ambient air and fan won’t blow hard even on high. Also, when the front AC does actually work, the rear AC has to be ON too, otherwise it blows ambient air.
Noticed the exact same issue on my wife 19’ MAX last week when I took it on a long drive. She never had the issue as she only drives short jaunts around town and it works fine, it’s only after about 15 mins where the issue comes up, Air is warmer and fan doesn’t blow hard even on high.

I wouldn’t doubt they were leaking prior to the warranty ending. I normally inspect the vehicle regularly during the warranty so I can catch this type of thing but I didn’t even think of the valve covers being an issue
So I contacted Fords Customer Service and have a case #. I should know by Wednesday if they are going to assist. They were very helpful and it sounded promising but who knows, we’ll see!
Thanks for that insight, never thought of the one time use but it makes sense! Luckily the trans blew under warranty along with the rear end and cam phasers. The Y connect heater hose failed at 45kmi and now this at 57kmi. I know every make has issues but i have a 2006 Toyota 245kmi of heavy...
I checked it out and yep you were right on… There is oil buildup all over both valve covers. I took a video but couldn’t attach it so here’s a screenshot.
If I look at it today to see how bad it’s leaking, any specific spots on the valve cover area I should focus on
thanks for that! It can’t hurt to ask right
IKR! I figured most companies have plastic everywhere these days. I guess I compare everything to my 20yr Toyota with 245kmi and no issues.
I’ll have to check out that video
Thanks for that insight. Yes it is the VCT seal on passenger side is leaking and the drivers side valve cover is cracked was the exact diagnosis. I appreciate the advice to contact Ford however it’s over a year after the powertrain warranty expired but the mileage is under 60k so maybe that...
The $2300 is about right for the job I think, at least here in CA, most of it is labor according to the dealer.
Yeah, I often wonder the timing on these discoveries of repairs needed. I try to do weekly inspections on our cars so that I catch things that needs attention especially when they are...
Agreed. Unfortunately This is not under warranty, we’ve owned since new. The recalls were unrelated to the valve covers, they just found it during their inspection. I check the oil and visual look over my cars weekly. I haven’t noticed any oil around the valve covers, smoking, but I haven’t...
Took our 2019 MAX in for a couple recalls. Upon inspection, They notified me that we had cracked valve covers and another seal was bad. I’m beside myself that a car with 57kmi has cracked valve covers!? Really Ford…Really? I know many cars have plastic valve covers but this...
