I was not towing, and I probably won’t tow anything with this. That’s what the Super Duty is for. The trans was serviced 13,000 miles ago. I had every fluid serviced after I took possession of the Navigator, for a known benchmark.
Driving on the highway for a 3-hour trip, and about 30 minutes remaining, my trans temp got very hot (I saw 232*). The cruise was set for most of the trip, relatively flat terrain (Missouri), and I was not towing. Ambient temperature was a little over 80*. I’ve got about 80k miles on my...
I had a similar noise (as best as I can tell from your description). I couldn’t tell where it originated, but most noticeable between 20-50 MPH. I ruled out tire noise, bearings, trans. Turns out the front end shit the bed. Dealer replaced under extended warranty. This was at about 65k miles...
Could bearing(s), front dif, rear dif, transfer case, u-joints. Does the sound fluctuate with wheel RPM, engine RPM? Any associated vibration in conjunction with the sound? Have you checked ALL fluid levels?
As stated, in ‘05 Ford went from the 2v to the 3v 5.4…completely different engines. I did a lot of work to an ‘03 EB that I rebuilt, to include a reman’d long block 2v. Plenty of extra power was found from the Volant CAI, JBA shorty headers, Magnaflow exhaust and e-fans I went back together...
Engine swap $3k, with a 3 year / 100k mile warranty. I did the work. Worth every penny. I’ve got some threads on here from a couple years back with many more details. Part of my complete restoration of an ‘03 EB.
About the best stuff money can buy. But you will pay for it. I think the last can I bought from Napa was about $25. Very common in aviation Mx as well.
Another option is something called Mouse Milk - again, the gold standard in aviation Mx. That generally comes in a bottle or even quart-size...
I found success in getting all of the steering wheel buttons working properly simply by cleaning the corrosion that builds up over 20+ years. I think there is a sticky for the procedure. Worked like a charm.
Whtbronco, your perseverance is to be admired. Now that you’ve successfully accessed the diag mode on the DATC, just remember to exit the diag mode appropriately in order to recalibrate your mode / blend door actuators.
I tackled both the passenger and driver side on my project ‘03 (and the...
Well done! I did the Z36 upgrade to my truck about 6 months ago, and have been very pleased. I didn’t opt for new calipers at the time, but took that opportunity to epoxy the OEM calipers.
Kansas is a big state. I’ve done business with LKQ in Topeka. Salvage yards have also gotten on the interwebs, so check out car-part.com as an option. I’ve had hard-to-find parts shipped to me from out of state.
Not sure what differences between the Expeditions and my Navigator might be as far as exhaust, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the nice rumble of my Navigator when I get on it.
For my 2nd Gen Expedition I rebuilt, I did put a nice Flowmaster exhaust on it, and that was fantastic! No...
It’s not that complex, nor required the entire dash or the airbox to be removed. You have a blend door actuator up top, and a mode select actuator (IIRC) on the bottom. I’ve personally replaced them both.
The blend door actuator up top can be done in about 30 minutes. Ford Tech Makeyouloco has...
The lack of excessive dust leads me to believe the pads aren’t getting chewed up at an accelerated rate. However, a quick search of the Google tells a different tale, claiming faster brake pad wear with drilled and slotted rotors. Time will tell. For now I’m pleased with the braking performance...
Over 20 years ago I added a pop-up sun roof to my ‘99 Ranger. It’s doable. Let a quality shop take on the project. It was about $500 back then, so now I suppose it’d be about eleventy-billion dollars :p
