I don't think ratchet straps created those scratches - they wouldn't be down the entire rail top to bottom like that, more just at the edge. You're probably correct about a piece of equipment in the plant. I was involved in the transfer of Exp to KY Truck plant way back in the day and I can...
Yeah, we felt the same way. We have a '22 XLT and we tow a 5klb camper. Lost the rear end end on the way back from a long trip out west. Even though the trailer was within the rated limit and shouldn't have caused the failure, we just don't trust it anymore for towing. We considered a new Tremor...
We previously had an X7 and now a Defender. I know what you mean in wanting more crispness from the handling. I think you can reduce some of the body roll with a stiffer sway bar, but I think you're wasting your time, energy, and emotion trying to make it into something its not. Unless you have...
Cleanliness of air and how much of it. That's really about all that can impact your air filter. Towing our camper the engine is continuously spinning twice the rpm it would be piddling around suburbia, so figure about twice the air passing through it per driven mile. Perception can be one more...
In situations like this I tell myself that somehow the thing was assembled. In the case of plastics, if it's not glued or welded, there must be a way in there. Question is whether it's worth your time.
I worked on Expedition a bit, but mostly F150, as a mfg engineer back in the 2000-2010 era. I found W709077-S426 in some very old files. This likely would have been before F150 upsized to an M18 (?) during the 2004 launch since I found a different part # with higher torque in my later files. I...
The gasket looks fine to me. The metal is going to deflect a bit during secure so you'll see it squeeze out a bit more at the location of the bolts. You can try putting a wrench on them and make sure they're all tightened equally. My guess is that this is not really the root cause of your problem.
Interesting point! They performed the recall on our 22. Knowing what they were trying to fix, I was afraid they were going to place the mat with some ugly bowl looking thing (I have seen the new design now, and don't like it). We got it back and nothing appeared to have changed. I wonder if ours...
No harm in disagreeing, but I think your sympathies are mis-placed. I keep in touch with a lot of good friends at Ford. A while ago one told me they were studying a uni-body Expedition sized SUV. Not surprised it never happened since it would likely need to be a whole new platform (expensive!)...
Unfair why? Similar price point, size (Exp has much more interior space, granted), towing capacity, powertrain. How they care to execute the product is up to them, whether uni-body or body on frame. Heck, my 2016 F150 is the same architecture and rides better than our Expedition. I'm no NVH...
We currently have a 22 Expedition XLT. Wife is a manager in Ford engineering, I worked in there as well. Between the two of us about 40yrs with the company. Wife considered selling our 22 and getting a mgmt lease, so I went to look at one. I'll admit I am resistant to change for the sake of...
Sometimes in life you just choose to get over things that bother you, and that's coming from another OCD engineer. It doesn't look great, but probably not actually causing any problem aside from your emotional distress.
Don't ever lubricate lug nuts. The torque spec is created considering the frictional characteristics of lug nut threads and the surface interface to wheel mating surface. I was a mfg engineer at Ford for 18years and have run a lot of torque studies in my time. Reduced friction = more clamp load...
Doesn't it become a multi-step process in this vehicle, though? I drive three different vehicles - my 16 F150 (which has radio controls on the right), my Honda Accord (radio controls left), wife's 22 Expedition (radio controls split!). I have to look down A LOT at steering wheel buttons because...
For us its wasn't just the steering wheel and the array of screens. It was the steering wheel, array of screens, and the ugly tailgate :D
Good feedback, though. And more seriously, there was quite a bit for us that just made it not fit, so it all comes down to how you use your vehicle and...
It all depends on what you like. I'm not a fan of all the buggy tech in cars these days. Give me some parking sensors, blind spot, a decent interface to my phone and I'm good. I'd rather the OEM spends money to give me quality materials and great ride and handling. The American public, however...
Oh boy, careful with that one. We have a 22 and they replaced tires, driveshaft, half-shafts trying to fix vibration. Apparently the entire diff assembly is not an option to order (which I kinda think is BS) so they ordered the guts. About five months later they called us back to replace. I...
2in is a pretty big offset. I'm not clear if you already have these tires on your truck? If you do, you can do something crude like cut a 2x4 to match the diameter of your tire. Turn your wheels both ways and hold the 2x4 on the outside face of your tire in various locations and see if it...
It seems like you and some others are onto the right things to check - tires (rotate to see if it changes the behavior??), shocks, sway bar bushings and links. Get the rear end raised. Try moving all of your suspension parts by hand at the attachment points - almost certainly a problem if you're...
Some of the posters are trying to diagnose it for you, but you're asking how might this go if they can't fix the problem? First, I'd be interested to know if they'd been able to replicate it. If yes, then at least that's a plus as the report will say they confirmed the issue but unable to root...
It's why buying a car for me these days is pure agony. Too many software problems and the poor dealers are helpless to do anything about it. I say "poor dealers," but I wish they could at least admit they have not clue when it comes to software instead of giving me the run-around.
Most of the bending stress in a beam is in the top and bottom flanges. By keeping them a large distance apart, you keep the strength. Removing the middle weakens the resistance to shear, but its probably not a big factor in this area. By putting a hole through the middle of the beam, you...
