2008 Expedition SSV >> 12v switched radio

I am trying to install an after market Kenwood (1 wiring connector) in place of the OEM (2 connector). I have attempted to identify the wires from the OEM connectors and have accurately located the all-time-12v and ground, but CANNOT locate the 12v Switched wire! Anyone know how this is wired?

OEM has a 24-pin connector and a 16-pin connector. The all-time-12v and ground is on the 24 pin, and cannot find 12v on any of the other pins. If I combine the Kenwood's Red and Yellow together onto the OEM all-time-12v I get the radio to power up, but I expect that to drain on the battery too much even when I've turned the radio off and removed the key from the ignition.

Does anyone know how to correctly wire this Kenwood into the existing wiring?

Thanks!
Bob

I have a similar question on my 2007 (i.e. also a Gen3 Expy). However, I’m just trying to power up my factory radio. A pro audio installer told me the Accessory 12V+ wire is Brn/Ylw on the the Ignition Harness, but I thought that went to the ECM before arriving at the radio harness. I do see a Brn/Ylw wire on my radio harness though…hmm…I want to be sure before I start splicing wires. See pics.

I don't believe there is an acc wire in the factory harness. I installed an aftermarket head unit in my 2007 and had to bring acc in from somewhere else. Instead of a switched +12 there seems to be a computer signal to turn on the radio.

@bobgriner , it looks like the Grey/Violet (i.e. GY/VT) wire in our factory harness (Connector C240A) is the “mystery feed” from our Smart Junction Box (SJB). See pic.

This is the correct answer.
The '08 does not have a switched ACC wire to the radio. You will need to run a wire to the fusebox and use a fuse tap to a switched fuse.

I believe it can be done with the Metra XSVI-5520 or similar adapter depending on if you have Nav or an amp. But the plain Metra 5520 is much cheap and it isn’t that hard to bring in accessory power.

Just had this issue. Get a radio interface. I fought forever with mine until I did some more research. You can find them at autozone for 60 bucks. It will connect to both of the factory plugs and you just wire it to your Kenwood pigtails. Mine worked great. It will include the harnesses for aftermarket subwoofers and steering wheel controls
