So about a year ago, I did the overdrive snap ring above the valve body , I put in new fluid and filter using the super synthetic wolfs head fluid. its was shifting great until about a month ago. sometimes when slowing down to 15-20 mph and accelerating again, it will flair up and then bang into gear. seems like its 2nd gear its going into. when pulling onto the highway and flooring it. It down shifts into 2nd gear and revs up then bangs when it finally engages. I'm talking about a .5 sec delay that wasn't there before. it has 160k miles on it. Is there a solenoid that goes bad? or common problems? any info would help..
thanks!!!
josh.

Finally got around to see what was going on in my transmission. It had a cracked separator plate and a gasket that was pushed out. So I ordered the toughplate installed it with fresh gaskets and filter and 11 quarts of wolfshead super universal synthetic fluid. Took about 1 hour to remove. 1 hour to clean valve body And inspect. and another hour or so to reinstall. I did remove all the balls and clean out the chambers with parts cleaner. I also researched the jmod but I only ended up pulling one of the springs from the 1-2 accumulator. It had two and I figured I would see how it was shifting with only that mod. It shifts great again!!!! And the 1-2 under load is snappy. But doesn’t bang. Verry happy now

Glad it's fixed. You'll definitely have to chime in here on transmission issues, as you sound well versed in diagnosis of Transmissions. Is your moniker short for a Mercedes Benz tech?
