i have a 2006 expedition 4x4

runs great but when driving more than 15 minutes at every stop it dies on me,
kind of like it isnt getting gas slowly dies, i can start it right away and it will continue to drive but its every stop that it dies,

i managed to keep it from turning off by keeping one foot on acelerator and having it pressed just a litte bit to keep the engine alive.

when it is about to die the check engine light comes on but after each restart the check engine light does away

and i keep getting 2 codes

p0340 Camshaft position sensor A circuit (bank 1 or single sensor)

p0345 Camshaft position sensor A circuit (bank 2)

Might be the cam sensors failing, but as I have learned from the multitude of posts on this subject here it's usually time for a full timing job. The 5.4 3V has a tendency of the cam phasers failing and the consensus is to use only Ford cam phasers for replacement if they are needed.

Anyway, a search on one or both of your codes in this forum will provide significant reading material to help you troubleshoot and repair.

How many miles are on the motor ? Have the phasers and timing chain already been replaced ?

it has 183k and i have no idea if the chains have been done before, but there is no noise or ticks when the engine is running,

Do you have ForScan? I believe ForScan will display the live data values for the cam position sensors and the commanded values. This should help narrow down whether its the sensors, phasers, or other (wiring, etc).

I don’t recall the specific variable names. I’d search for something like advance command and advance actually
