Chevy, you can just install a new "reverse relay" in the rear of the vehicle. You could use something like the rear 12 v accessory socket leads for power and trigger it by tapping into the backup lights. That way the wife should stay happy because you almost stayed within her zero dollar budget...

Van- I agree but I still need a reverse light circuit in the cab because my backup camera monitor has one lead for 12 volt power and a separate lead to turn the monitor on and off automatically with the reverse lights.

I got the wiring from Home Depot. 10ga and 14ga stranded service entrance wiring ($16).

TK what is service entrance wire? does it have only two wires in one bundle (one 10 ga and the other 14 ga) or is it two separate wires? What color is it?

Thanks - Mark

Service Entrance Wire is only single wire with insulation (they have different colors, but I bought black). It's the kind of wiring you see inside your home's electrical service box. It's got like a clear outer coating protecting the black plastic insulation. You will need to get stranded wiring, rather than the solid wiring just becuase it will be easier to bend and solder to other wires. It's hard to solder 10ga solid wire.

I got 25ft of each 10ga and 14ga, but I think 20ft would be enough for the install. I had plenty of wiring left (4-5 ft).

Just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and they have it all stored on spools to be cut by the clerk. They are priced by the foot.

Update - Thanks to TK1971, I completed the same install as TK. I used two automotive wires (one 10 ga and one 12 ga.) and installed them into wire loom and ran them along the existing harness going to the rear. I purchased a Reese 7 way connector which has a 4 way connector and the extra wires. I used the existing 4 way plug to connect to this and soldered the rest of the wires. I originally was going with the Hoppy 6 way combo unit, but it really looked cheap so I went to Reese without the combo. Mainly because I had already made my mounting bracket to pick up the existing bracket welded to the hitch without drilling any holes.

I ended up taking Chucks advice and hooking up the blue electric brake wire just in case I ever add a brake controller. I also soldered my backup camera power leads. One went to the reverse wire connection (one of the new wires run from the front) and the other was soldered to the new white ground wire which got bolted to my frame in the photo. All solder joints have tow layers of shrink tubing.

I have not yet purchased the AUX power relay but all the trailer wiring is complete.

Next I need to find the reverse switch wire in the fuse box on the passenger kick panel and hard wire the monitor of the backup camera. It needs this connection to turn on automatically when in reverse. Below are some pics of my install.

Thanks again to this board for helping me find the wires!

I am going to revive this old thread. As I understand it the orange 10g wire in the engine bay that is termenated by the brake booster is the 12v battery charge wire. What is the color of the wire for the reverse lights? My Navigator did not come with the HD tow package and I am installing the 7 pin to tow my TT. If I can run these two wires and make it almost factory I will be very happy. Thanks in advance
