Trainmaster that’s my issue with it. The govt pushing around the manufacturers and forcing consumers to buy things they may not want. Ford and GM would not be walking this road if it were not for the overstepping epa and gov and they fought it behind the scenes. Unfortunately cafe applies to half ton trucks.... thankfully 3/4 ton plus are largely immune which explains the diversity.

This is the world we live in and there will always be lots of opinions about government regulation. Motorcycle helmets, airbags, catalytic converters, CAFE standards, safety belts, gun control, ethanol gas, refrigerants ... the list goes on & on.

We've all benefited AND suffered from all of these things. Small changes in gasoline demand can have huge impacts on supply and price, so CAFE standards have had a huge positive impact on your life whether you know it or not. Catalytic converters are expensive but have dramatically improved air quality. Its all a compromise.

Everything is a slippery slope. Catylitic converters also drastically decrease fuel economy (MPG).

J, you'll enjoy Eric Peters column. He's a libertarian who looks at the automotive trade without the socialist propaganda we've endured for the past several decades. With some of these regulations lifting now, we should have more access to the products the people like us want.

By that blanket statement, I mean the GM offerings outsell the Expedition historically by a country mile. I do not -prefer- the GM offerings, so no need to take offense at a statement based on historical sales. Not meant to call your Expedition inferior by any means.

I own an Expedition, by preference. But every Tom Dick and Harry out there, relatively speaking, owns a GM.

Not sure I am tracking on your $1.17 comment?

Fair enough and I don't disagree that GM outsells Ford, cause they do....be a country mile too! I misinterpreted your statement as you saw....anyone have any ambien?<LOL>

The Tahoe I was looking at would have cost me 17% more than I paid out the door for my '17 and that did not include the "Out the door" fees which in Maryland, incl 6% sales tax...3 grand on my truck, plus the other title crap.

Yup, a similarly equipped suburban compared to my 17 EL with 202a would have been 10-15k more, and wouldn't tow as well as the ecoboost either (suburban with the 5.3L)

The 5.3 is an absolute DOG compared to the EB... I had a rental Suburban while my Expy was in the body shop... There is no comparison in my opinion. My EL handles like a sports car compared to that lumbering beast.

Yup, between the lack of towing power and that stupid rear seat setup for kids only, those were big deal breakers on the suburban. Now if I could have had a 6.2L Yukon XL, I would have tolerated the lousy third row option.

Yeah seriously sometimes they just overdo things until they get ridiculous

And companies just make compliance mods tailored to the regulation rather than build from the ground up based around the new rules as the gubmint seems to expect...results and performance and even common sense be damned

new US market washing machines have water flow limiters (literally plugs in hoses to make them narrower) so harsh they cant rinse properly.... had MAD allergies/skin issues unless I ran TWO additional full wash cycles on a load to rinse it, until i figured it out, popped the hood, and removed or drilled out (i forget) them plugs

....give it 10 years and you might just have to hotrod your new toaster oven or teakettle
