Hello all. New here. Tried to find a thread with an answer to this, but couldn't, so...here goes.

Just bought used 2015 EL XLT Expedition. 190K miles. Had it less than a month, CEL light goes on and turns out I have two bad catalytic converters (are there only 2?). $2500 to replace! I don't need emissions testing so I just want to delete them. I'm assuming that this will cause the CEL to be on permanently. Any way to get around that? Also, if the CEL light is on too long, will it cause convenience features to be disabled? I hear that happens with Subarus where the cruise control will be disabled if the CEL is on for too long. Any thing else I should be considering or aware of? Thanks in advance.

People have some success with those O2 sensor extensions added to the rear O2 sensors to defeat the cat efficiency DTC code that will pop up if you remove the cats. As long as the front (upstream) sensors are functioning properly the Expy will run fine. There's a few videos out there on the subject.

Ok - that's great - do you have any links to videos like that? I've searched, but haven't found anything.

Here are some alternatives.

you can buy a catted down pipe from performance places for $1000 and bolt it in.
You can go to a junk yard and buy a stock replacement for cheaper.
You can buy 2 high flow Flowmaster cats for $100 each and have an exhaust shop weld them in.

or you can go the cut cat out route, but I personally don't like the raw gas smell all the time.

This is a high flow cat for $100.

I just gutted mine this weekend. Kinda had no choice. If you go this route, get the longer Dorman "spark plug non-foulers". Mine have done great so far. Mine is a 2011 5.4 3v limited. On the drver side downstream sensor I had to massage the floor a little to give it better clearance. Ymmv....
