I’m loooking at a used 2016 shorty Expy ( only 31k miles), w/ HD tow package, 3.15 yes electronic brake control, too. Why put such a 3.15 gear on a towing Expy? Yes gas mileage, when not towing, but one seems they would want better performance when towing. As it has an HD tow package? What am I missing here? Does the twin tubes make up for this gear? With an electric brake standard on HD towing one would think it is for towing a travel trailer?! What am I missing? Or is this 3.5 HD tow with 3.15 exceptable to be an rv towing vehicle? Thanks for your thoughts

What is the axle code from the door sticker, and which trim is it? Does it have a trailer brake controller?

You did not state if you have a 4x2 or 4x4 model.

On the 2016 short wheelbase models, the 3.15 rear axle ratio was standard on the 4x2 models, and the 3.31 rear axle ratio was standard on the 4x4 models.

I ordered a 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 model (included the HD towing package) and the 3.73 rear axle ratio was standard (non-limited slip rear axle).

On the 2016 Expedition models, a limited slip rear axle was available or standard on certain models, but I’m not sure which ones.

Shows 15 code being 3.15?

The Ford tow guide for the 2016 Expedition shows 3.31.The F150 shows "15" for 3.15. Google Ford 2016 towing guide. It's on page 30 in the guide. I tried to upload it, but got an error saying it's too big.Screenshot_20201228-210538.png
