I have a 2016 Ford Expedition EL 4x2 Limited which comes standard with the Heavy-Duty Towing Package from the factory

Question: Does the HD Towing Package guarantee 9200 lbs towing capacity when coupled with a weight distribution hitch, or do some max out at 6600 lbs?

At the Ford dealership that I bought from they told me that as long as I had the HD Towing Package, I would be able to safely pull 9200 lbs. However, I'm a bit skeptical because of conflicting information I'm seeing out there...

Looking at both the label on the hitch itself and the manual that came with the vehicle, it does state 6000 lb "weight carrying", and 9200 lb "weight distribution", but with the footnote: "These are hitch ratings only. Actual vehicle ratings are dependent upon engine, transmission, and axle combinations."

And using a VIN lookup tool it states the follow specs for my vehicle:

* Axle Ratio = 3.31
* Gross Combined Wt. Rating = 12500 lbs
* Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. = 5000 lbs
* Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. = 6600 lbs

Looking at Ford's 2016 RV & Trailer Towing Guide, it would seem that if my GCWR is indeed 12500 lb, then the 6600 lb towing capacity figure is accurate, and I would need a 15100 lb GCWR to achieve a 9200 lb towing capacity.

Nothing on the door jam sticker seems to validate any of this information. It states a GVWR of 7520 lbs, and a maximum payload of 1438 lbs. Nothing specifically on the towing capability of my particular vehicle.

If you have the HD tow package, you have 9200lbs. The VIN lookup may be incorrect.

And there's no exceptions to that rule? HD tow package absolutely 100% guarantees 9200lbs capacity when coupled with a WDH?

If so, that's great! This information should be stickied somewhere on this forum because I keep seeing a lot of questions on this topic and sometimes the answers aren't always so black and white.
