I have an '18 but am considering a '21. I don't off road, but I do drive down dirt roads, so have to deal w/ pot holes and what not. I live in southeast Michigan dealing w/ all 4 seasons and snow. Money and mileage aside, which would you choose based on the specs?

2018 Limited
301 w/ HD tow
3.73 w/ elsd
20" w/ regular suspension

2021 Limited
302 w/ HD tow
3.73 but NON-limited slip
22" w/ ccd
360 camera

Specs are the same otherwise. My biggest concern is the 45 series tire on the 22" wheels vs more sidewall of the 55 series on the 20" w/ dirt road travel. I've never used the rear locker button for the elsd. Would I miss it otherwise? It's a late build 2018, so it has the updated oil pan and what not. Other than the color changing ability of the ambient lighting in the 2018 being taken away from the 2021, are there any other things they cut cost on? Appreciate any input. Thanks.

How many miles on the 18? And is the 21 new? What's the price difference? ELSD is more than the button to lock the rear diff. The button locks the diff full time and is speed limited. However, ELSD also acts like a limited slip diff at any speed aiding in traction. My 21 doesn't have it and I wish it did.

Oh, and besides the ambient lighting not changing colors on the 21, the first row headrests are fixed and do not tilt like on earlier years.

I would keep the 18 and upgrade to a 22 or 23. The 21 ltd loses the ambient lighting, 10 way passenger seat, and conversation mirror over the 18.

Appreciate both your feedback and input. The '18 has 40k, the '21 would be new. Wasn't sure how much I'd miss the elsd, or not, w/ traction assistance..

Essentially it's a trade off with gaining 360 camera and ccd w/ 22" wheels on a new vehicle, but taking away elsd (and losing some sidewall on the tires) along with getting into more costly maintenance & replacement parts (i.e. tires..)

Unless you are going off road, especially in loose dirt or sand OR drive in snowy conditions a lot, I don't think you'll need/miss ELSD. I say get the 21. The cam phaser issue was pretty much ironed out by then, not so much with the 18.

Also on the ‘21 you’ll also be missing an engine cover and the button on the B-pillar to release the second row seat. ‘20 and newer only have the manual lever on the top of the seat to do the tilt and slide.

Both of these features were the ones I wished I had on mines after getting, along with massage seats. ccd is nice for the most part. The 360 cam is nice but I remember driving a nav and the screens looked small and low res after driving a new denali right before.

Ford's camera's are very low resolution compared to GM and Ram. That has been corrected with Sync 4 however.
