I hear you. We are retiring this year and will be traveling significantly in our motorhome pulling our truck. Some trips, like to the maritime in Canada and to Alaska are in the plans. I have zero tolerance for pulling a vehicle that could fail at any time. I realize that the cam phaser is not generally a fatal flaw, but I am not willing to find out otherwise in the middle of nowhere.@Shutterbug57 this is what bugs me, so sorry you're dealing with this again. I don't understand how this hasn't turned into some kind of 10yr or lifetime replacement thing. If there isn't a fix, i.e. everyone, even on here, said make sure your CP replacement is with the "new" parts, but unless there are new, new, and new parts, there is no permanent fix. I realize the NHTSA is mostly dedicated to only "safety" issues but to me things like this start to get there. failing mechanical parts that require incredibly invasive repairs, for the life of a vehicle? some folks on here are 3 - 4 CP replacements in.
Ordered a new loaded Bighorn RAM today. Will miss a few features from the Expedition, but most features will be in the new truck. I guess its all about managing risk, both financial and otherwise, especially as we move into retirement. I will miss the set-up of the Expedition, but not Ford’s reaction to a known and significant issue.
