Hi everyone-

I have a 2019 Max Platinum that just this week has given me issues with the sunroof. The only problem with the car from when i bought it nearly new (14k miles) in 2021 was cam phasers. Today, vacuuming the back seat I looked up and my headliner is stained only to the right side (passenger) of sunroof from front passenger to 2nd row- about 4 feet in length.

We had some terrible rain here in NY last week and it could very well be from that because the volume was very significant.

I have an extended warranty directly through Ford.

Would the sunroof work be covered under the warranty?
If covered, would the warranty also cover damage to the headliner in terms of cleaning or replacement?

Thanks for any information or thoughts you may have. Ford warranty center is closed and my local dealer is useless.

I am almost positive even the highest tier of Ford warranty (PremiumCARE) does NOT cover sunroof related components or glass. I discovered this when buying my Expedition + Warranty (I have a PremiumCARE).

Start by checking your sunroof drain lines, I'm betting they're clogged and the interior gutter overflowed. It's a pretty simple task. Some recommend taking weed eater line or equivalent and pushing them thru the sunroof drains to the other end to clear them.

The dealer can do this too, but they'll likely charge 1-2 hours, or $150-300 give or take. I believe compressed air would work, too. Try searching around.

PremiumCARE will NOT cover any water leaks. It's listed in part of the contract and brochure as what isn't covered, and gives the specific example of "water leaks".

slow. Thanks for your response. Are you able to confirm drain hole location? I’ve looked online and in YouTube videos but am not having any luck. Thanks!

Two years newer than yours, but should be a great reference as it looks like what I saw when I pulled my 2016 headliner down for the same service.

Note: My Expedition did not have a panoramic sunroof. Same stuff just on a shorter/ smaller scale. Hope this helps.

I believe there are four - one at each corner, but don't quote me!

Unrelated, but as a preventative, Ford has recommended in several TSBs to use this lubricant on seals. It wouldn't hurt to lube everything while you're up there.

I have used this with great luck. Our 18 sunroof does not squeak or chuff, rattle or make noise. 2x a year I open it and lubricate all rubber around the opening.

I have Premium care warranty for my 2019 Expedition and Raptor. Both vehicle's sunroofs became inoperable in 2022 and repairs were covered under warranty by Ford.
