Our recently purchased 2021 expedition has dust leaking through the trunk lid when going down the gravel roads
We don't drive much gravel, only a 2km stretch from our house to the highway, even on that short distance we have thin layer of dust on the anything that's in the back of the vehicle.

Has anyone had this issue with their vehicle? Rubbers seem to be on the right spot as far as i can tell, and the trunk lid lines up on the outside of the vehicle, and it doesn't feel like the latch is loose

I googled this but doesn't seem to be a known problem

When driving on gravel, what do you set your HVAC system? Are you using the inside recirculation or using outside air?

Have you checked the weatherstrip on the side doors? Is it possible dust is entering one or more of the side doors, and then settling in the back?

After driving on the gravel, perhaps stop and open the rear hatch and side doors (on pavement) and see if there are any weatherstrip areas that have dust on them? If so, that may be your dust leak-point?

I remember reading about this problem in prior posts. This post suggests a solution at the end.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Generally use outside air.20251025_124053.jpg20251025_124056.jpg20251025_124103.jpg20251025_124114.jpg
It's definitely the weather strip at the back door
Here's some pictures where you can see the dust on the inside of the seal
But the seals look fine, they don't feel stuff or dried out
This vehicle has only 100k(km) on it
