When we bought our 22 Max Stealth we drove it home from the dealer with 5 miles on it. It was billowing out “exhaust” took it straight back to the service department where they diagnosed it with a cracked engine block. It was obviously assembled broken. 6 months later rear differential went out and had entire back axle replaced. One year later (right now) rear differential broke again. Another full axel replacement will be done. Warranty only covers 10 days for a rental at $60 a day. So for now I’m driving a little car that doesn’t fit all my kids in it. The service department told us it will take two weeks to have parts ordered, delivered, and then repaired. So I guess in 5 days I’ll be walking my family of 8 around town since Ford has no desire to help us out. 95k worth of metal sitting in a repair shop for most of its life. :(

Other issues it has had also:
1. Left rear passenger door doesn’t close easily. Must be slammed. Battery was dead and assuming it’s because the lights were always left on after my kids didn’t slam the door shut.
2. Sunroof rattles like it’s going to blow right off the car. Service department is replacing the whole thing as they found a problem with the actual trac.
3. Silly electrical malfunctions. CarPlay is a joke. Only sometimes works. Audio only sometimes works. Screen goes black no cameras work. I have to shut the car off to “reboot”.
4. Paint rubbed off in some areas to show the black underneath. Overall crummy paint job. Inside of doors by hinges will eventually rust.
5. Other trim pieces in interior not assembled nicely some have broken clips so they are falling off or look wonky.

Was the exhaust billowing out when you test drove the vehicle prior to purchase?

We didn’t actually test drive it. ‍SMH I know! It was smoking, yes, and stuttered at first start but we honestly thought it was because it was fresh from the factory and hadn’t been driven at all. Maybe it was just burning off some stray oil or something. It had less than 5 miles on it when we signed the papers. But by the time we got home about 30 miles away it still had smoke coming out of the exhaust. So we called our local dealer and took it in to them to fix.

I don't understand why everyone thinks they are entitled to a large SUV loaner? I get it, it sucks, but todays vehicles are trash and will only get worse. If you don't have a back up vehicle, every brand will leave you in these same situation. Sounds like you had a bad one for sure. All these fancy electronics will fail next....

I’m entitled to a car that fits my family because I bought a car that fits my family. I don’t want luxury I want seats and seat belts to fit 8 people because that’s how many people I drive around every day. I can’t simply tell half of my kids that they have to walk behind the car while out running errands because the rental car we have doesn’t have room for them. We have a family trip coming up that has been planned for a year, we can no longer cancel it. We have to drive two cars to get there because the $95k piece of metal Ford sold us is broken AGAIN. Not because I broke it, but because it was faulty from the start and it NEVER should have left the factory. I shouldn’t have to put my life on hold because Ford screwed up. They should see how much money I have spent on new cars and offer me something comparable and then thank me for my business!

I think you need to hire a lemon law attorney, for sure, with all the problems you’ve had. Sorry :(

We are actually in the process of lemoning it. We’ll see what they offer us. If it’s crappy then we’ll have to hire an attorney. In the mean time we are out a car. :(

I’m guessing it’s because they just dropped 95 grand on a brand new vehicle that they purchased to fit their family. I mean with one vehicle costing that how much in your opinion should we be setting aside for our second vehicle that would fit 7-8 people?

I would advocate hiring an attorney as well, unless they’re taking care of you without it. Thankfully after they addressed the cam phaser issue the expedition is one of the more reliable large SUVs. Truly a bummer for you to be going through this.

We've owned mostly Fords over the past thirty years. But a few years back we stepped up to a BMW X7. It too had its share of problems, and they ended up buying it back. Before you say you can't compare that level of vehicle - yes you can. It costed us $84k, well within the price of an Expedition. Difference is that they ALWAYS provided us with a loaner. Not always X7 size, but they always made an effort and it was apparent. That doesn't help you much in your current situation, but just to counter some of the comments that you're not entitled to a full sized SUV while yours is being repaired - that certainly is Ford's opinion. And not every OEM shares it.

1) Its crazy to pay $95K for any car, especially with a 6 cylinder turbo engine. Which is why I have both a 2001 4.6L and a 2013 5.4L in my driveway.
2) If you pay $95K for an SUV you should not have a cracked block and TWO broken differentials.
3) If you pay $95K for an SUV and it breaks down, you should get an equivalent SUV as a loaner for gosh sakes....
4) Maybe a new Expedition with 6 cylinder turbo is not up to hauling 8 people around as advertised.

Hope you can make lemonade of that lemon in the form of a $95K cashiers check. And please, please , please do not buy a Hyundai or you will show up on the Hyundai Engine Failure forum.
