Again, all season is fine in a lot of places and on a 4x4 it will probably do just about everything you want. If I had a big heavy SUV that was RWD and I was concerned about snow and ice I would run a dedicated snow tire Nov-March(April). All-season and 3peak just don't compare to what a good snow tire can do. Running snow tires for 4-5 months in the winter isn't a ton of use and they should last a long time (obviously depends on your mileage) and it will extend the life of your summer tires too.

Surprised no one has mentioned getting familiar and comfortable with your manual gear selection. Using the engine to control your speed will help keep you out of trouble that brakes will often get you into
The snow mode is way way more advanced than manually trying to address gearing especially on slick roads. ABS and the stability systems are pretty amazing but transmissions are still pretty dumb. Its easy to cause a uncontrolled skid via shifting a transmission manually. Especially in a Long 2wd truck. If your tires don’t have traction jamming gears definitely isn’t going to help.
