Hello,
Newbie and not a car person, so please be kind .
I purchased my first Ford in Oct 2023. It was a 2023 Ford Expedition LTD with stealth package and < 150 miles. 9 days after purchasing, I started receiving the following message on my dashboard:
“Check electronic limited slip differential”.
It took the dealership a few weeks and a couple attempts to correct. First they sent me home saying they couldn’t reproduce the message (although I informed them numerous times that it happens randomly and the messages does not stay displayed when restated). After being told there’s nothing they could do without the error message, I started driving away and sure as heck the message appeared not even .5 a mile away so I turned around and brought it right back. They ended up saying I needed a new sensor. Fast forward, with new sensor installed—- and message returned. Took the suv right back to dealership. Dealership kept for almost a week and determined modules needed updates. Great, all is good.
Almost exactly a year later and I receive the same message. Took it back to dealership. Thankfully they got me in quickly and updated multiple modules. They told me about a TSB this time (where a good search led me here).
The dealership has been helpful and the employees are great. Random things happen in the car (randomly no sound from speakers — not sure if this is related to CarPlay/ iOS, but rebooting phone usually corrects the issue. I’ll have to check the FM radio next time. About two months ago, the car alarm randomly started by itself twice — within days a part. Sometimes my side mirrors do not open. Once my side of front seat was blowing warm air with lowest ac setting on and all other sections of car was blowing cool air - turned car off and back on with no continued issues. Noisy breaks. Wireless charger is useless… etc). All of which I assumed would eventually get corrected with updates and/or not a big deal- technology can be glitchy, yada yada yada. But now I am getting nervous. Having to update a large number of modules twice within the first year of owning — is this typical? The first time the message appeared, there was not a TSB out yet— if I was not under warranty, would I have had to pay out of pocket? I haven’t had a new car since 2014 and a lot has changed since then- loads of new technology and features, which obviously leaves room for more issues down the road. Is this common occurrences with new vehicles and am I worrying for no reason? Or did I get a dang lemon? Since there was eventually a TSB put out covering a number of issues we’ve had, I assume it’s not a lemon — but I also assume it takes a larger number of complaints before TSBs are issued… what happens in the meantime when warranty is up? Do extended warranties cover the same?
