Hello everyone, new here just bought an new 2024 expedition limited max in December. Have the same vibration and shaking as others have stated above 65mpg and worse above 75mph, took into ford and they told me 3 of the new tires were out of round. So if you road force balance it won’t be caught. They need to inspect for out of round on the tire. When I took my car to discount tires they did not catch this, they just balanced and sent me on my way not correcting the issue or even finding it. Hope this info helps someone.

Early in my career I designed tires. It sounds like tire uniformity, however, suspension and chassis can exasperate it. The shorter the sidewall, the more it gets amplified, or less forgiving. I prefer a taller sidewall, funny they shorten the sidewall on the higher trim levels due to the look, not the ride quality! The tires are the first link in the suspension. Whatever the tire can not absorb, the suspension has to absorb or transmit to the chassis. The lower the sidewall, the more forces are transferred to the suspension. This makes sense for high-performance applications, but I question the logic for everyday vehicles. We most likely have the sales/marketing groups to thank! All tires should be quality-checked by the tire manufacturer for uniformity, but there are acceptable levels where some are better than others. Where I worked, each tire was measured and marked 1-4 "bars" which were painted on them for future reference. 1-3 bars were sellable. 4 bars were scrap. I analyzed all the levels and would not want any 3 bar tires on my vehicles. Sometimes you can visually see the runout, other times it takes measuring equipment to determine the forces caused by the internal tire structure. We had one vehicle manufacturer with poor chassis design, crazy things had to be done with the tire design to make up for the OEM's unwillingness to do the more expensive fix to the suspension/chassis. So there is a relationship between the tires and the suspension/chassis, however, the tires would be the cheapest and easiest to try. You could request to test tires with a higher sidewall from a lower trim level. If it fixes it, clearly it was a tire issue. Or request new tires screened by the tire manufacturer. I would also ask for the local Ford rep to review the situation. This is most likely beyond the dealers' capability and/or authority. This is a quick summary, I hope this helps give some information towards getting future issues like this resolved.

Will be ordering new tires in the next week or so. Going with Michelins, should we go with Defender LTX M/S2 or Primacy M/S? We are in FL with 99% street driving.

Does anyone have any contacts or paths when the dealer and Ford customer service isn't helping?

I've had a vibration since the vehicle was new and I have 9 documented balances. On my last visit to the dealer they suggested that we try a road force balance. I was dumbfounded because I thought they had been doing RF balances all along. They said that I needed to specifically tell them to do a RF balance . Lo and behold, two tires failed. They put those on the back and the vibrations are much better. So, this is what's been happening all long and why the vibration comes and goes. They would balance and rotate the tires and depending on the location, I would have a vibration.

Here's the kicker - they're now telling me I'm too far over on mileage. I was at 35k when we found this out. I swap with winters, so these tires have maybe 20k on them, but of course they won't take that.

I called Ford and they told me that the warranty is 12k. Even before I had a chance to discuss further the CSR told me that the policy is firm, no one else can help me, and there is nowhere to escalate. I was a bit surprised as I hadn't asked for any escalation. The dealer is telling me to go contact the tire manufacturer and their Ford rep denied any claim.

My winter set is on right now and there are no vibrations.

Follow-up to my issues....

Dealer kept telling me that they were following-up with the local Ford rep and then strung me along for 6 months. Always said they were out sick, "I will check and let you know" (but never would), etc. Finally, they said the rep told them that the vehicle has 42k (which was the current mileage) on it now so it's too far out. Didn't matter that I reported the issues all the way back from 0 miles and had it all documented. Also didn't matter that they said 6 months ago the rep was going to look at it. Called Ford customer service back again and they said the same thing. If the dealer didn't ever submit a claim then it's going to be whatever the current mileage is. They passed it off to the dealer and said each dealer is independently owned and Ford has no control over them (yeah, right..). They did offer to call the dealer on my behalf and that's when things started moving - so maybe they said something to them?

I ended-up following up with the dealer each week and being a general pain until they said they would do a 50/50 split on new tires. Gave me the option of the same tires - General Grabber and some other low-cost options. I told them I wanted Michelin Defenders, and they agreed. They told me they didn't feel they should have had to pay anything. I agreed with them and said if they had diagnosed the issue correctly, earlier, then Ford would have paid under warranty.

Dropped off the wheels and they changed them out last week - still have my winter set on so it will be a couple weeks until I get to try them.

Got rid of the factory Grabbers and all is good. Ford replaced them on their dime, wanted Michelins, gave me Hankooks which are not good tires either

Finally got a chance to swap my winters for the new Michelin Defenders - I'd say it's solved. Smooth up to 80mph. Ride is great. New problem - I can't tell how fast I'm going by how much it shakes anymore. I need to look at the cluster..
