My Expy, towing a 26' boat, got rear-ended by a guy in a BMW racing with a friend. Fortunately no injuries. The insurance company says $48,900 but everything comparable out there on the market is more than that.

I know some will say it can be buffed out:), but probably not. Anyone with experience out there to say it SHOULDN'T be totalled?

What does the boat look like.. that’s some pretty substantial damage, it could be repaired, but totaling it seems a wise choice by the insurance company. If you really dispute the value offered, hire an independent appraiser and then provide their findings to the insurance company. That will usually get a better valuation.

That’s done dude, sorry. We lost a Navigator last year to an uninsured driver, I feel your pain.

Gary, the Formula boat ended up maybe 100 yards past the vehicle and trailer, the BMW was going about 80, us 50-55. The guy says it's totalled but we love that boat so we'll see if it can be saved.
We also may end up getting an independent surveyor to look at the Expy.

AWAR, an uninsured driver? Does OR have compulsory insurance laws? That's awful!
Our son lives in WA, beautiful country!

Oregon has mandatory insurance when you renew registration. However all a monthly payer has to do is stop paying their insurance. I have uninsured driver coverage on all my cars for just this occurrence.

Let them total it out, take the 50 grand. If you argue for a repair, it will follow the truck and be worth much much less when you do decide to trade or sell it.
Personally when looking for a vehicle, anything that has an accident or damage history is an immediate pass....I don't care what the "great" price is.
A dealer will give you much less on a trade with an accident history.

That truck is smoked. Even if you did find a body shop to take on the project, it would never be the same. Good luck.

That is a throwaway imo. Insurance companies suck! That's a fairly hard hit and when repaired as Grrumpy said you'll take a big time beating on it down the road. Argue strongly for a total, also remind them that they owe you for the sales tax you paid when you bought it.

I agree with the "total" advice. I really like the Stealth 304A package but have not found ANY vehicles for sale with that option.

What models, with HDTowing, come closest to the Stealth if I totally can't find one?

Honestly, you should be able to find a cpo navigator for around the same price or slightly more as a used expy for the trim and engine your looking for. Thats what I did, I found a very nice cpo 2022 nav instead of going brand new (though i wish i did go new) and you get a lot of features not on the expy.

Adaptive headlights with corner bending, illuminated seatbelts, phone as a key, better sound system(subjectively), more seat adjustments, heads up display, ventilated second row seats, welcome lighting...what i can think of at the moment. I will say, though some people dont like the quirks, i personally think the 5th gen expys are the best fs suvs on the market and the drive they give is markedly better drive qualities than the 4th gen.

A real HUD. Not like the Plati that just has flashing red LED's but on the sticker claims that's a HUD... DUMB

Right, the hud is the same size as the ip display. My wife and I love it, its one of the best huds in the business as far as im concerned. Ford should've never got rid of it for the 5th gen.

if you are spec hunting, I recommend the visor.vin app and to spring for a month or longer subscription until you find what you're looking for. It appears to scrape every new/used dealer for any and everything and has lots of good tools for weeding out options to your liking. When I was looking for a leftover '24, it was recommended to me and once it knew what I was looking for, I'd get suggestions when something popped up (often one dealer swapping a new vehicle to another). The used stuff on there without subscription seems legit to me as well. Good luck!

1+ on what Gary Waugh said—invoke the appraisal clause and hire an appraiser to negotiation on your behalf. We went through that with our 2014 when someone ran a red light and t-boned my wife. The truck only had 28,000 miles on it, 6 years old. The insurance company (our own company) offered us chump change. In a do-over, I would hire the appraiser.

+1 for the appraiser as well. Sounds like you suffered quite a loss. Get an insurance appraiser for all that was involved.
