Is there any reason we can't put straight axles under these things? Obviously with enough $ anything cab be done. I just don't see why I can't put some axles and leafs on it.

As you said as long as you the money, anything can be done. But i remember hearing they did the IRS so they could do the fold flat 3rd row.

You can go solid axles as said above no doubt but leafs are cheap and suck for any real off roading. If you are going to the trouble of SASing might as well go coilovers.

If i was doing a $$$ no object project with my 04 Expy, I'd pull the body off the Ford frame and install it on a military M35 with a 12V Cummins and auto tranny. I'd mod the body as necessary to fit the frame, anticipating something like an Econoline/Expedition merger...
obviously, a ton of mods would be necessary. make your own assumptions.
