While going through a drive through car wash with under body sprayer, the 4x4 activated (and I think I tried to go into 4x4 low). It was a newer type facility with a conveyer belt system instead of a pusher lug. I had to put it back into gear to drive it off the belt and the Expedition was shuttering and bucking the whole time. After getting out of the system, I switched to 4x4 and back to awd and it took a bit, but finally reset back to AWD.

Question for the group, If there is a wiring harness under the body that can be affected like that, where would I find it so that I can inspect to make sure it is sealed properly. My 2000 EB model had 275K miles on it now, so I guess things like this are going to become more common, but I still enjoy it very much and want to keep it going as long as I can.

Thanks for any reply.

Check the wiring for the transfer case shift motor it’s pretty exposed. Maybe some of the weather seal rotted away and shorted it?
