Was running the truck during our recent heat wave when it started a howl/squeal. Hit the AC button and noise stopped. When i had the time i checked the belt (was on it when i bought it to years ago) and the tensioner is near its limit. When switched on the clutch does not seem to be spinning at the speed it should and it howls/squeals. I have a belt ordered. I believe it takes an FS20 compressor and am wondering if that compressor is the same for all wheelbases. I found a very good deal on an FS20 and am considering buying it. I would then have a completely new clutch set up to put on the old compressor if it turns out to be more than a belt, and the compressor itself if need be.

If I were here, you would know it !
Both wheelbases use the same compressor.
Might be worth it to buy a new compressor....being 14 years old it's nearing the end of its life
^^THIS^^

IMHO, this is one of those "well, while you're in there" jobs....cause changing the clutch & belt will require a fair amount of labor, so you might as well make it all worthwhile & not have to worry about it for hopefully another 10+ years :)

Don't forget to change your desiccant filter in the condenser. Pic shows what happens when the compressor leaves the chat!

Decided to not go the compressor replacement route after seeing this video...its exactly my issue. New clutchface/hub arriving today.
Wow! I had this same problem. I ordered a new a/c compressor kit and spent the day installing equipment. Oh well!!
