I pulled the silver tape off and replaced with all black (my Expy is black) self-adhesive textured tape. Looks a LOT better.

It's too humid today to finish painting so I can take more pictures.
Thanks. I want to hang some relays to boost the headlight voltage by direct connection to the battery post and think there might be a spot somewhere. It is pretty busy on passenger side with horns.

Attaching the grille is a piece of cake; removing it is 16 chances to break off a plastic tab. I used a heat gun to soften it up a little. Painting is also a pita because you have to hit it from so many different angles.

Yeah but it will look much better in black.

Did you have to use heat to remove the tape? I tried pulling some and it seemed to be pretty well adhered and what came off, tore in such small pieces, The other option is removing the entire molding. I don't want to end up needing extra body work if that molding is glued on too well or has alignment holes.

Looks great. Was much prep required on the surface of those honeycombs?
No, at least not compared to the effort it took to repaint it. I lightly sanded a few spots that were flaking, then sprayed it all down with wax and tar remover. After wiping that off and letting it dry, sprayed a couple of coats of plastic adhesion promoter front and back.

I chose DupliColor Trim & Bumper #TB101 Black based mainly on the fact that I already had a full can on the shelf. The directions say "...apply 2-3 light coats, allowing surface to dry 10 minutes between coats." but there should have been an asterisk that said, "*If you're changing the color of a Gen1 Expedition grille, apply 20-30 light coats..."

Saw that you recently got a Gen3. How would you describe the differences between it and your Gen1? I have a Gen11 F150, equivalent to a Gen2 Exp, and the user interface was still plastic dials and buttons. Wondering how far the UI evolved next version.

It has taken a bit of time to get used to driving the 2013. It is quite a bit more powerful and the fuel mileage same as the 2001. I still have trouble parking as the hood is enormous and for some reason when pulling or backing into parking spaces, I miss the lines. The handling is a bit heavy compared to the 01/ I think it is the much wider tires. The interior is in better shape, though not as clean as my 01. I will have to get it thoroughly detailed as to the carpets and seats. The dealer hired a bad detailer. The AC and all the systems work very well and I have some crazy 20 years unlimited miles drive train warranty on the engine and transmission, the parts that are "in oil" so to speak, which are the worrisome ones in the Expy, like the valve train and the transmission valve body.

I still have the 01, been fixing it up and in process of cleaning and painting the cowl and wipers, somehow cracked the windshield, which was a blessing in disguise because; 1) the old windshield was separating not only internally, but the bond to the frame as paint lifted. 2) Got to see that the windshield frame was in good shape, no rust perforation. I am fixing up and cleaning all the trim and such , possibly to put it on BAT as a project for someone. Or maybe send it off to a paint shop , either way, will open space on the driveway which the wife wants.

The 01 styling looks cleaner and drives best, like a Crown Vic with a box.

The 13 has no rust , paint is very good and everything works like a new car. I still need to get used to the console shifter and the truck like handling. The AC blows cold and the satellite radio is great. I have twice mistaken other silver Gen 3 and Gen 4 as mine. The first time I approached, clicked the Fob, doors unlocked and had the power running boards extend. What? I don't have that option. The guy who owned it was walking up right behind me.
