Accuracy of Tire Pressure Sensors???

Hi:

We have a big analog tire gauge that I use to check and set tire pressures. Interestingly, the Ford sensors all read 4psi higher than the gauge. Should I assume that the Ford tire sensors are off or my gauge is off?

The Ford console says that all 4 tires are at 39 psi, while the analog gauge says all 4 are at 35 psi (the tires should be set at 35 psi according to the sticker on the driver's door jamb).

If the 39 psi Ford sensor reading is accurate, should I be concerned about running the tires at 4 psi over the rating?

I have two different tire gauges here (one analog similar to the one in your picture, another one of the palm-size digital Rhino gauges) and as long as I drive it a few miles and let the TPMS settle, they all three agree within 1psi. I'd suspect your gauge.

Try a different gauge. The odds all 4 tire sensors are wrong is pretty slim. Especially if they are consistently off by the same value, it points to the common measurement point.

My sensors tend to read pretty darn close to my gauges, within one psi or so.

Mine were about right... Every gauge I have would be 1 or 2 psi above or below. Cheap-o ones or $$$ ones - didn't matter. Even the manual floor bike pump gauge is close! I'd say your gauge is off...

Mine are accurate +/- 1psi, with a few different tire gauges.

Cheap tire gauges don’t measure correctly. They are always off… I replaced mine with Rhyno gauges and all is good.

.5 psi since the scale is .5 increments. IMO they are pretty accurate. Get a JACO elite digital gauge to check. 90% of other gauges are crap.
Also remember each tire may be different depending on the sun shining on the tires on one side, taking trips with full luggage in the back will make the psi higher due to the weight displacing the tire generating heat.

My sensors have always been pretty accurate. I did have a gauge like the one you have pictured and had to toss it because it was way off.

Mine have been accurate as well. I use a Ridgid portable pump to tap off my tires. It automatically stops at what I set it at. When my tpms updates, it shows my correct 39psi tire pressure.
