2017 Expedition Limited HD Tow. Bought a new Featherlite open trailer in summer of 2021 and posted here about the great mileage I got bringing it home empty (20mpg) running it on 93. After several long trips, I decided to add an air dam to the trailer so that I didn't have to wrap the entire front of the vehicle to keep it clean during trips.
Well, was I surprised when I just ran the truck / trailer empty from NY to FL to pickup a car and the empty trailer with the air dam mileage dropped from 19/20 to 15.4!! I had thought that since the truck covers the majority of the frontal area of the air dam, there would only be a small difference, certainly not 4.5mpg. I was getting 12.5mpg with a heavy car on board (4600lb), now I'm scared to see what the mileage will be with the air dam and car!
