Hi all - I'm going to need to update my profile bc I've upgraded from a 07 to 18:)

I transport all sorts of items (20' kayak, 14' stand up paddle boards and a huge rocket box) on my roof and was very happy with my stock cross bars on my 07. So of course I bought a pair of cross bars for my 18.

But to my surprise, the Ford OEM bars that I ordered only have 3 fixed mounting positions on the roof rail where my 07 had a flexible track, which in my opinion is much better. These new bars also sit further above the vehicle which causes additional wind noise.

My problem is that the 3 mounting positions don't allow me to position my rocket box rearward enough so reduce the amount of wind noise. I do have a sunroof which is part of the problem, but I'd still like to get a pair of adjustable aftermarket bars cross bars that will allow me to place them anywhere on the roof rail.

I'm curious if anybody has tried to fit one of these Rhino rack bars below? They claim to fit the exact width of the vehicles roof and sit only 1.5" above the factory raised rails. I like low profile as this will cut down on the wind noise. I also see the Thule EVO wing bar but these appear to sit quite aways above the roof rails.

If anybody has tried these, or has any insight I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

What did you ever come up with? I'm too thinking about running the Rhino Rack bars with Pioneer tray system. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have a 2011. Im researching the best options to put up two 12' kayaks on the roof racks in the next few weeks. My confidence is a bit lower after reading a few other posts of kayaks ripping out rails and such :(

I would probably add tiedowns for the bow of the yaks to help with wind lift.

Any other advice for the best kayak racks?? Trailer is not an option as I'll be pulling a Grey Wolf Toy Hauler as well. When going to local water, i can put the yaks in my trailer.

Thanks Guys!

I got mad at the cheap racks, All aluminum frames, or steal with bars across. I made Mine with one inch conduit, and air craft cable. It is in My pictured post.

I negotiated the cargo package in my purchase (wasn't factory installed) and the dealer knew it came with roof rack bars. I assumed I was getting the standard Ford bars, but when I picked up, they had upgraded and bought me the Thule cross bars. I actually really like them. They're an aero bar, so there' s profile that helps reduce wind noise, and they lock down (sort of - it's not impossible to cut it off if someone really wanted to), they have rubber inserts to cut to size and put in the track once you set your width which also helps with the noise. I've been happy with them, and now it gives me the whole Thule catalog as options to add on if I want.
