I have been away from the forum for a really long time. I think I first joined in 2012.
I am back into a expedition and enjoying the truck so far.

Lets get to the good stuff. My rig of choice is a 2007 Expedition 5.4. 4x4 with the "Advanced Trac". I looked at ALOT of other truck. I looked at new trucks and really loved them but decided I did not want the payment and still not be exactly the way I wanted it. I decided to opt for a nice older truck. This way I still can have some $ to put into making it my owne. I found a really nice truck that only had 85000 miles and was local to me. It is in great shape, all but the rockers and needs new paint in the tail gate.I decided I did not care about the cosmetics. After all this is an Adventure rig. It's going to get scratched up at some point. As a bonus, I spent significantly less money on this truck than a new one so now I can talk my wife into letting me spend more $ on it.

Currently,l
I am really into the " Overland" style of rigs. I plan on making my truck a " mild" overland build. I don't plan on doing a lot of actual overlanding. However, I will be taking my family on a lot of small camping/ adventure trips. My plan for this build log is to post my mods but also my adventures as they come.

So, here she is in all her glory.
This is the first day 100% stock.

The first order of business was to promptly remove the ugly plastic factory steps. Then address the rust issue on the rockers.
I don't think I took a picture of the truck with out the steps on it.

I am not a vehicle body work kinda guy. I know way around. Lets get down to it.
Here is the rusty rockers.

I decided to just take a grinder to it and completely cut the rockers out and leave as much of the good steel in place. Then clean it up with a agressive wire brush.

I do have plans on re doing the rockers at some point. I want to cut them out more and add square stock steel turn them into more of what I would call a "Jeep Cherokee" style rocker/ rock slider fix. But it may or may not happen.

I also found a small spot over the rear drivers side tire on the fender lip. I just cleaned that out as well.

Rockers all cut out and cleaned up.

This is the spot over the rear drivers side wheel arch.

Once I got it cleaned up fairly well. FAR from perfect. I got the truck all taped up and sprayed with raptor Hyde bed liner. I also sprayed the out side of the doors and around the fender wheel arches . I got a little excited and for got to take pictures of it all taped up with news paper but here is the out come.

Rear wheel arch all fixed up. Came out pretty nice. The bed liner curve around the fender arch is not perfect but looks pretty good. I am thinking about possibly putting a set of stock fender flares on it.

The front Ford oval was in really bad shape. Quick easy mod to get it fixed.

There is not a lot of exciting things going on with the expedition right now. Might as well up date to the current state.

When I got the truck it had a " tow package" but for some reason did not have a 7 way plug. I ordered one and got it all wired up.
The new plug has a 4 way plug and a 7 way. I also put in a trailer brake controler. I dont have a picture of it but if any one is interested I will gladly take one or two. 6fa7e6a8db39f1fbd35c082a1dc03cf3.jpgd6f45b0bd31d96aa295aeef92a89ee67.jpg

I also got started on some of the basic " power/ gas mods" . I put on a cold air intake. I went with the specture mostly because the price. It has pretty good reviews. I have drove the expedition close to 3000 miles with it installed and so far It is working well.
I plan on upgrading the exhaust in the next few weeks. Then I will hopefully get a sct x4 tuner. 910eacc51aac8b028b784224768922ba.jpg

I can't forget interior mods. The expedition interior is a very nice looking medium tan and grey. I am mostly happy with but it but still need to make it my own.
The driver side seat was in bad shape. The stiching was comming out of the seat bolstering. Everytime you got in and out there would be yellow foam on the floor. I convinced my wife to sew it up. She did a great job.

Then the search was on. I needed a set of good seat covers before all the seats got totally destroyed. After all I have 3 young kids and they can make short work out of a vehicles interior. I considered getting a nice set of leather sets from a salavage yard. Here is what I came up with.

The seat covers are neoprene. They fit really tight and I think they look great. I have the middle row seat covers as well. I have not put them on yet. They just came in the mail on Friday. The 3rd row seat cover is not made for the expedition in that style. They do make a back seat cover for the large cab f-150. I think I may give it a try. The seat look similar.

One last side note for the night. I have to say sorry for any misspelled words or odd grammer. I am typing every thing from my phone. It is a cheap one that doesn't work all that great. I catch a lot, but also miss a lot. But then again I was never a star student at school either. Bear with me.
