2021. My wife just called me and said she stopped at a light and the engine shut down (could have been the ASS working) but when she took her foot off the brake and pressed the accelerator the engine did not start back up again and there was a message in the cluster to put the gear selector in Park and re-start the vehicle. This is the first time this has happened to this vehicle. There is only 10k miles on it too. Any ideas as to what causes this trouble?

From afar - a battery issue.

Time for a warranty repair.

I drove it today and it did for me. Stopped at a light and the ASS engaged. When I went to take off and took my foot off the brake pedal the vehicle failed to restart and I got a message on the cluster to put into part and start veh. It started right away. I'll be making a service appt soon and will have it checked out.

I took a picture of the message on the dash. It is very repeatable. I can't believe the battery is going bad at two years old and 10k miles.

No. It's definitely an issue with ass. If ass is off everything seems fine. I'm taking it in next week. It's still under the full bumper to bumper warranty.

That is just the problem. Two years and 10k miles. Vehicle sits too much for batteries this day and age.

my 2019 still has the original battery. 60,100 miles on it.
Never using AS/S saves the battery. Useless feature that is hard on batteries and Starters

I think this is an issue specific to the 2021 and later. I don’t think I have seen the same complaint for any of the 2020 or earlier model years. My 2019 seems to just stop doing the AS/S way before it gets to the point of not starting at the intersection. I’m surprised there isn’t a TSB for this. It would be very frustrating to have your vehicle shut off at an intersection.

I had a 2018 that did this, low mileage only about 6K a year and in the 3 years of owning it had 3 batteries in total, all replaced by Ford. They seem to eat batteries if not used or put on a trickle charger. I also live where the daily temp is 70°+ all year so that may also not help
