Local Ford dealer wants $4800 to change the cam phasers and new water pump for my 2019 Ford Expedition XLT at 130k miles. Is it a good price? They want $800 to replace the water pump alone as preventive maintenance. My Exp rattled around first 10 seconds of cold start and the phasers were replaced under warranty at 41k miles in 2021.

Will Ford help with the cost or I have to shell it out of my pocket?

$4800 sounds about right. I think they do the timing chains w/ Phasers as well. All the seals, other required stuff....etc.

I think you're way past the warranty period for the Cam phasers....130k miles is a lot.

I hope they replace timing chains when they replace the phasers. Seems silly to go that far into the engine and not replace them.

@keny01998 You might also consider having the valve covers replaced while they are in there. They are prone to leaking.

Updates: I just set an appointment with an independent mechanic and he charges $2200 for 13 hours labor. The Ford OEM timing chain kit and other parts like water pump, heater hoses cost $1700 from Ford dealer. Hopefully it will be done next week.
