Have a Star white 25 on order and scheduled to get built next week. Have seen a few online with the tailgate color matched painted but when reaching out to my dealer they said it could not be painted due to the different material of the tailgate. Anyone have experience with this? I know wrapping it is an option but have not seen a metallic white that matches.

If I were here, you would know it !
A black tailgate on a metallic white vehicle....hummm...

not no...

not hell no....

but f*ck NO !!!!!!!!

I was not aware that the 25's tailgate is made from a different material than the rest of the body but I'm no expert & haven't seen one up close to know for sure one way or the other....

However, my both of brothers '24's have the same material all around, and so does my neighbors '23, which I HAVE seen & touched in person....

But I find it somewhat sketchy that you can't order it painted the way you want it, like w.t.f., you would think that color matched everywhere would be the stock configuration (easier & cheaper to build), and changing that to some other combination would be considered as a "special" order, probably with an upcharge..... ????

We have the Star White and love it. As for painting a body shop would be the best to tell you.

Thanks for that. Good to hear. I keep feeling like i made an $80k mistake by picking the star white instead of grey or black but wanted different than the standard black i normally get.

To me it looks really sharp with the black around the windows all the way to the back. It has a nice pop in the sun light as well! I was concerned especially with the orange on the front and rims but I was pleasantly surprised when we went to pick it up at the dealership. To me the orange is more of a copper color and really looks good.

We ordered Oxford White and I plan on wrapping it (just plain white). There might be a wrap color that could closely match the Start White, worth looking into it

We have a star white with the SPP and don’t even think about the black liftgate, the split is white, bumper, etc. Non factor as the tinted glass wraps around and is broken up with the tail lights. Normally I buy dark colors, initially liked the dark matter metallic but changed to the star white, very happy with it.

Good to know. I do not have the SPP package as mine is Platinum with drivers package so there isn't black anywhere else on the vehicle. I think the plan will be to live wtih it for 6 months and if i still hate the black on the back, look to get it painted/wrapped. That also buys time to see how others deal with it and if painted, how the paint holds up.

I wrapped mine initially but tbh it didn’t look as nice and I ended up taking it off. The black grows on you… particularly once the windows are all blacked out it makes for a pretty classy look. They knew what they were doing.

There isn’t going to be a wrap this will “match”…..you are better off wrapping the whole tail gate area top and bottom, or painting it.

I matched it with 3m wrap and it was close enough that you couldn’t really tell. The idea was just to see if we wanted to paint it and we ended up just not. The rear end looks really fat when it’s color matched. The black shrinks the rear and makes it look more Land Rover-ish, if that makes any sense. Next try will be wrapping the top black, kinda two-tone look. Just playing around with free time. If it looks good maybe I’ll have it painted or done professionally.

I highly doubt it that it can't be painted. Pretty much any metal, plastic, composite can take paint. Now ease of painting is a different story. It looks like there's a Ford emblem that should be removed, reflectors, it says Expedition across the back (can't tell how these are integrated). I'm sure it can be done. How good of a job do you want and how much are you willing to pay? Although I agree with your sentiment, don't think I'd be willing to spend the money. For me it would either be to live with it, buy it in black or gray, or not buy at all. We're sticking with our 2022 for the time being as we don't really care for the new design.

I think the new tailgate looks cool. It's a modern look and in a few years I suspect most will come to like it too. I remember when the 2015 F150 and the 2011 F250 came out I thought the grills were both totally hideous, but now I think they looks great. Some new designs take time to grow on you. Cobbling up a paint job that is likely not going to adhere well or putting a cheap wrap on a $80K vehicle will just look strange IMO.

Can you match the star white. the Oxford white i know you could easily but with the metallic tri coat paint im not sure if ill get a match and honestly the color difference would drive me nuts .
If you wrap, then do not try to match the white. Look at matching the gray from the wheel pockets or even flat black in the front. In other words, pick up a more subtle piece of the trim and see if you can get a wrap to match it. It will not be as stark at the gloss black but have a good contrast and not look like you tried too hard to be cheap.

I saw somewhere that Ford has gotten an earful for this black on the tailgate and there was talk about making it the body color for the ‘26 model year. I would bet yours is going to be a ‘26 model year and it’s something to check into.
Hope I don’t raise any false hopes. But you know if you saw it on the Internet, it must be true…
