Hi guys - I am looking to provide a tie down mechanism for a bag big enough to hold a tow strap, jumper cables, etc. I have several possibilities for the bag, but I note there are zero tie downs back there. Any experience with how to add some tie downs? I’m just not sure how to proceed with drilling into something import!

Something I have used in my vehicles for years is a Weathertech Cargo/Trunk liner in combination with their CargoTech Cargo containment system. Weathertech markets their products to your specific vehicle. I have used the cargo tech blocks with all sorts of containers. Currently, I have a small cargo liner sized for the area behind the 3rd row seats and a liner for the cargo area when the 3rd row is folded. I have always wanted to have a group of tools in my vehicles, and with the Expedition I have 3 medium-sized canvas bags with pockets and a set of ratchets in a plastic snap case. They all fit nicely between the 3rd seat and rear lift gate and are held securely in place using the cargo techs. Weathertech.com if you're interested.

Crawl under the vehicle and look and measure what may be in the area you want to locate the clips. You can size your bolts or screws to limit interfering with anything that may be underneath.

Honestly, I just opened up that access panel on the driver side quarter panel interior panel. I have dropped in there jumper cables, tow straps, tow hitch and a small bag of tools. Keeps them from rolling all over the cargo area.

I have a 2014 with 3rd row seating and this is what I did. This was stuff left over from a van conversion. No drilling and mostly out of site. There are single point E track tie downs that I bolted 1 side down with the seat belt anchor bolt. It is not as strong as using 2 bolts but I have a trailer for the heavier stuff. My goal is to keep things from flying forward God forbid I have an accident.
