Tossing this out as I’m stranded 3 hours from home trying not to throw unnecessary parts at it.

05 Expedition, EB Edition, 5.4 3v. dash message “check electronic throttle control”.

I replaced the actuator and the TPS, disconnected battery while working on it to reset PCM. Used FORScan to reset DTCs. Key on engine off, same codes come back, stuck in limp mode- PCM codes 221, 223, 2104, 2106, 2111, 2135.

I did not replace actual throttle body as #1, it’s hard to find in stock, but I do have one available if that’s the cause. #2, it seems to be working as expected mechanically EXCEPT in wide open throttle, the butterfly shudders/shakes slightly but rapidly. I don’t think that’s normal but I’m not a mechanic by any means.

I’ve physically checked for obvious wire shorts in places that I’ve seen mentioned, as well as everywhere else I could reach /see.

1st Screenshot is current KOEO relevant data, pedal full release. TPMODE says WOT at all times, all pedal positions until you release the pedal, then shows CT for a second maybe, then returns to WOT.

2nd screenshot is same key position, full throttle pedal.

I can’t keep throwing parts at it, and I can get either the throttle body, or the pedal position sensor with the $ I have. Anyone have any quick input that will get me back to running?

Just a follow up from home. In short, throttle body was the issue after all. Not the motor or the TPS, but the actual body. All is normal now, including the previous 40-50 ish sluggish or hesitant throttle response I had been experiencing and wrote off to whatever.

Hope that helps someone else in my position.

mine went into limp mode monday. managed to get it home. i reset the pcm and tapped on the actuator. i heard a click . it did fine after that. went home yesterday and cleaned the throttle body. it had lots of black gunk in it. so far, so good. the code mine showed was throttle actuator stuck open.

You might get lucky there. But, mine did it the day before as well. I turned off the engine, waited a minute then restarted and was ok. Then it stranded me 4 hours from home after I finished a job site, had it towed to a better area (kinda shady neighborhood on the job site), but still 3 hours from home. Upon closing out the tow the driver informed me he could have towed it home for me, as my AAA covered that! I just got lucky I found a new TB assembly less than a mile away from the job office.

I will say, this also fixed my sluggish acceleration in the 40-50mph range as well. Evidently that’s an indicator I should have picked up on before.

It wasn’t too difficult a repair with the hand tools set I had with me- metric and standard sockets and impact driver. After the install I did the PCM reset process laid out in Ford Tech Makuloco’s YouTube video. It’s running great now.
