1999 Expedition 4wd XLT 5.4.

Just started getting a loud clunk and vibration when tuning sharp (left or right) , as in going into a parking space. When going straight no noise or vibration. If I put into 4wd it does not clunk or vibrate. I almost never use 4wd, can’t remember last time I used it. Going forward or reverse or turning left or right makes no difference. Front CV axle??

Could be a number of things. Ball joints, cv, hub. You’ll need to jack it up and check it out. Likely upper control arm is shot imo

As it turned out it was the transfer case motor. It was stuck in 4WD regardless of the switch position. How it engaged in the first place I have no idea.

Thanks for posting your solution. It is annoying to respond to someone's question and not hear the outcome.
