I have 2003 EB and replaced the wheel bearing 4 months ago.
Yesterday, I was driving and it felt like the rear of my truck was going to fall off.
The right rear wheel was 2 lug nuts from coming off.
I got the bearings from Detroit axle and was wondering of anyone else had an issue.
The wheel studs snapped off inside the bearing.
I had a ASE certified mechanic install them.

Thanks

Another Chinese import? I remember when Detroit Axle was domestic. I guess no more, or they're using those pot-metal Chinese lugs.

Or.... the wheel was installed with an air gun. Or the lugs weren't properly retorqued after the wheel was incorrectly installed.

Could be any of those things, but I'be seen lots of Chinese lugs break.

Thanks for the input.
I think of it was an install issue it would have shown up earlier than 4 months.
Are you sure Detroit is using Chinese import stuff?

I know some of their stuff is imported, but not all. So no, I'm not sure the bearings or lugs are imported. You might try calling them. It's pretty outrageous that they'd break.

But even the best lugs will give way if they loosen and are driven for awhile. That's possible if the wheel wasn't properly seated when it was installed. It shifted and the bolts were then loose.

That happened to me on a '63 Chrysler, and I'm sure those lugs weren't imported.

That's why it's good practice to check the tightness after fifty miles or so.
