New to owning 2021 expedition max limited with all the bells and whistles. 2nd row captains, but would like to be able to have one of my dogs in 2nd row like it's a bench.

Has anyone found a reasonable safe solution to fill the gap? My dog is high energy and 65 lbs. What is out there and sturdy with decent fit? Ideally with easy access to storage.

Or do i just have to build one

I believe one member on here used a large high density foam block. If you search for that it should come up.

I'm interested to see what people say here. For everyday use I have the third row down and a dog bed over top of it. The dog enters the back door and goes between the captain's chairs and gets in the bed. For long trip with lot of cargo, it sure would be nice if the dog could be on a second row bench!

We have a 45# mini-goldendoodle and she is able to stand on this with no issue. It is nice to have to store some items in it. It helps to have some heavier items to help keep it planted. It works as a good place to keep some winter survial gear in it as well. It fits nicely between the captains chairs. She normally lays in the seat and has her head on this as it is slightly taller than the seats.

Used to be common for guys to simply remove the arm rests and fit the standard center seat between the other two. Holes are (were?) in the floor for the bolts. There are probably center seats in garages from when guys did the opposite. Certainly at salvage yards.

We have a 2017 with captains chairs, and flipped upside down this crate fits perfectly between the seats, and is the same height as the seats. We tuck a dog crate pad around it, and it makes a comfy bench.
Our 95 pound lab is getting older, so jumping in and out of the back is getting more difficult. We put out the running boards and flip one of the seats forward, and he walks right in like climbing stairs - no jumping involved.

I used a piece of 2" styrofoam sm cut in half and tuck taped together with 2 foam blocks used for putting a canoe on the roof taped on. The canoe blocks sat on the head rests and the foam spanned the seat gap. to keep it from sliding i used a cinch strap around the foam and under the seat backs. covered it all in a flannel sheet and the dog was happy. She did not like the feel of the sm on her feet. 45 lb dog

I measured the distance between the door arm rests. Cut a piece of 1/2in plywood. Covered it with indoor outdoor carpet. Put a piece of 2in foam on the length of the board. Seat sird and put his dog sling car cover in from the Fusion and he hope in and like it.
Drove to texas from Florida and back worked like a charm. @024 Expedition Max with captain chairs 2nd row.1734373198346.png1734373198346.png
