Drivers window started acting up yesterday. Its very cold. The other 3 windows are operating fine. Window goes down very slowly. Comes up slower. Stops about halfway up, wont move up or down for a bit then can be raised(or lowered). It sometimes stops again going up and after a bit you can raise it the rest of the way. It will completely close and after bumping the top open itself a bit. You can keep playing with the switch and eventually get it to stay completely closed. Im thinking its likely the motor. Looking at rock auto i see they come in 2 varieties: a 2 terminal motor and an 8 terminal motor. Is there a way to know which i have so i can order the correct one so a dont take it apart before i get a motor.

I had a similar issue on my 08, it was the steel cable that raises and lowers the window, the cable had started rusting making it very hard to raise/lower the window. The electronics though a child’s finger must be getting crushed as it kept stopping when raising. Eventually the cable broke, it is a regular steel cable as used in bicycle brakes, so I made a new cable and everything has been fine since.. you can buy the entire window mechanism, but it’s a lot more expensive than just replacing the Bowden cable.

So no real way to tell if its a 2 or 8 until its apart is what i gather.
@Gary Waugh What did you need to do to make your cable? I have many spare bicycle brake and shift cables and would like to be prepared with what i need when we open 'er up.

I would say 8 terminal is probably for automatic or one touch equipped master switch, and the 2 terminal motor is for regular switches where you have to hold the switch to get movement

I am sorry, it was a few years ago so I don’t recall, but I mountain bike a lot and carry a round metal tin (about 3 to 4 inches in diameter), it has the cables and different end fittings (to fix brake or gear change cables) and I just used one of those kits. Not very helpful but the end fittings weren’t anything special. If you can buy a bicycle kit (local sports shop or Amazon) you should be good to go.

Go to any of the Ford online parts’ websites that permit you to enter your VIN. After doing so, you can look up the specific window motor you are searching for. It will provide the original part and number that your vehicle had.

I have used FordPartsGiant.com with good success. I have no connection to the website. The site will provide the Ford part number(s) and you can search for the part online, or buy it from the search website.
