Good day, just wanted to ask, I have an expy 4.6 2000 model and I was wondering how to use engine brake when going down steep inclines? Can you shift to drive 1 or 2 while the truck is moving? Haven't tried it fearing the trans might get broken. I am more familiar with manual trans cars. Thanks.

yes you can down shift but I would go from D to 2 then only go from 2 to 1 when going slow do not go from D to 1 without slowing down as it would tend to jerk you in your seat Does your expy have 4x4 or is it 2WD

I have done the D to 1 downshift the trans will not let the the downshift happen till the speed has come down to under 35 to 40 mph , so it will remain in 2 even if the selector is in 1 till speed is reached

Thank you very much. My expy is 2wd and is fun to drive I use it only as a Sunday car. Oh another question is how do you change auto trans fluid does it have a drain plug like the one for the oil and how much is the capacity? Thanks again
