I am getting ready to replace brake front pads on my 23 Expedition Max Limited
Do I need to put the truck in " Brake service mode " to do this?
I was assuming the service mode was just for the rears, but I saw on another site that this is for the fronts as well .

Fronts do NOT need to be in service mode. Service mode is needed only on the rears to retract the parking/e-brake actuator.

I would suggest replacing all 4 pads. While not necessary, they would have similar heat damage, etc.
I switched to high end ceramic pads. I'm glad I did. My brakes a super quiet even when engaged by ACC. And I didn't notice any difference in stopping power.

Yea, I did this on my wife's Acadia, and it made a HUGE difference in both quietness AND stopping power, as well as a major improvement reduction in "brake fade"

NOTE: she is very hard on brakes, always has been, always will be for some reason :D

I will be switching to ceramic pads on my '011 soon, as soon as I can find a set of black Rotors & Calipers, which will go with my planned "Storm Trooper" color scheme (white Expy w/ black rims & trim (chrome-delete style)

what "high end ceramic pads" did you get? Brand and model # please. Im looking for good ceramic pads that are quiet, good stopping power similar to stock and less brake dust compared to stock metallic pads

And what rotors?

MEVOTECH TXBPC2087 TTX for front and MEVOTECH TXBPC1790 TTX for rear.
There are several to choose from in different price ranges at Rock Auto. I'm not sure if one is really better than the other. I used Bendix, Raybesto, Akebono, Power Stop and Wagner ceramic pads for years with no issues and they all lasted long.
I did not need to change my rotors, as they were replaced when I received the Ex. I just replaced the pads.
Here is a link to rotor and brake pads at Rock Auto:

Getting back to the original question...... Does 23 Expedition Max Limited need to be in Brake service mode when replacing front pads?
