I have a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4L V8 with 188,000 miles on it that is getting 10.3 miles per gallon city driving would you owners of a similar vehicle , mileage and age consider that to be average or bad?

Not great, but there are a lot more variables affecting mileage such as weather, your driving style, terrain (you don't show what part of TX you're from), stop-and-go or freeway miles, trip duration long enough to reach operating temps?), tire size/inflation, number of passengers, etc, etc. Realistically speaking, solo driving in my 2010 F-150 5.4 4X4 in AZ consistently achieved mileage in the mid-teens using A/C probably nine months/yr with mixed driving and my tendency to "lead the pack" from lights etc. Our 2019 Expedition is averaging in the mid-to-high teens but all city driving and almost always with passengers. I would expect higher mileage on trips.

I'm thinking given the mileage, the age and unknown final drive your about where I'd expect it to be.

My 2000 EB 4x4 4.6 managed 12 around town and 14 on the highway. That was with about 130K miles. Was the same since 60K when I bought it in 2003. My buddy had a 2004 F150 4x4 with the 5.4 and got 8 and 12. Early ones with 4 speed transmissions are not known for gas mileage. I've seen better and I've seen worse.

I have a 05. With 18x,000. It gets 11-12 city. And 15-16 highway. But it has a 3” lift with 33’s.

OK so I’ve come to the conclusion it’s not good gas mileage I’ve changed coil packs when needed, changed spark plugs and cables in the past 2 - 3 years with no change and just recently I had to replace a fuel injector. Not knowing enough about them is that something that will improve my mileage.
