Hi, just wanted a experienced view on the reliability of an extremely well-cared for 2019 Ford Expedition XLT. It has 99k on it. It looks new. Clean carfax. All regular service done on it. This will be a tow vehicle (around 4-5000 pounds) a few times a year. I know that online consumer reviews can be biased and unreliable. Can you give me some wisdom on your experience with reliability and use? What are the weak points of the truck? Need it to drive relatively problem-free for another 100k.

Thanks in advance!

I’m sure there are econ9mic reasons to your choice, but 2018-2019 isn’t the best vintage. I’d definitely get it inspected. By a mechanic you trust, if they won’t let you take it for the inspection walk away.

Seems that 2018's and 2019's are a box of chocolate. Mines been excellent...part of why it's still here 6 years later....while others have had lots of issues. Not much help I know, but I'd be very careful. 99K it could become a money pit.

My 2019 XLT was awesome and I wish I still had it for a multitude of reasons. Not sure what you are looking to pay but mine was about 50k out the door. It was not an optioned out xlt, really the only option it had was the tow package.

I have no reason to believe it wouldn't have gone 200k. If the transmission is shifting nice and smooth and there is no start up clatter you are probably fine. It is probably due for a bunch of service. I wouldn't skimp of service on these.

The 2019 was getting close to 70k zero issues when its life was ended...

The 2020 is just about 55k, engine is great but the transmission is starting to have some hesitation 3-4 and 7-8. I need to take it in and hope the extended warranty is the real deal...

Both handle/d towing duties for a 6500# camper at least 10 trips a year. (I'd have to do the math but at least 5000 miles towing a year) I'm probably over a 1000 miles just this month towing the camper.

If you get a 2018 or 19 with the updated cam phasers your as reliable as everything up to 2023. The next potential issue is the CDF drum in the transmission which didn’t get updated until 2023 model year trucks. It’s a roll of the dice of the CDF bushing will ever be a problem since it’s a press fit steel sleeve in an aluminum drum and poor design. Only other thing about the 18’s is they do have the plastic oil pans which require often resealing. Eventually, the aftermarket will most likely come out with a gasket or the aluminum pan can be installed.

The 2019 also needs the tsb done to it for the neutral out condition due to the $35 dollar plate in the transmission that costs $1100 in labor to swap out.

Like other said, box of chocolates.

If it has the UPDATED phasers and not a new set of old ones and the tranny fluid is not burned, it’s a sound gamble.

My 19 MAX with trailer pkg has about 105,000 miles. I had the phasers done with the recall. I get about 19 mpg when normal driving... mostly interstate 80 MPH. Hook even a small trailer drops to about 9 mpg. It will pull and haul well.. 9 mpg.. A friend does about the same with f150.
