I have a 99 Eddie Bauer expedition with the 5.4 Triton and the 4r100 20 bolt transmission I need someone's help I have spent lots of money with nothing to show for it because it's still doing the same thing. Big problem is the transmission has to be manually shifted it doesn't want to shift when just put in drive have been told electrical issue and the speedo fluctuates at an idle and will register 100+ at approximately 30 I've tried everything and I can't figure it out and I like the truck and would like to keep it but I've got to get it right

What codes are you getting? Might be something going on with shift solenoids, or a power control module. What's been done so far? I and others need that info.

I haven't gotten any codes pop up but my overdrive light is flashing. I have replaced the speed sensor in the differential and the one on top or the transmission neither one did anything everybody keeps telling me it's an electrical issue the transmission dipstick gets a smudge of something brown Everytime it is inserted into the transmission but the fluid is clean. And it looks like my wiring harness to my transmission has been tampered with because there are exposed wires that have been tapped up

Their you go! This is why we say time and time again don't tap into existing wiring! These vehicles don't like it, and react accordingly. I can't tell you how many times in the past 4 years I've been on the forum, after going back and forth, for sometimes 30 posts or more, it finally boils down to a person at another shop or individual tapped into something for 12 volts, and screwed everything to pieces. Best advice, fix your wonky wiring, put it all back to stock. If you need to hook something up afterwards, run the hot straight to the battery with a fused lead 10-50 amp depending on application.

I've got a 2000 wiring diagram book, don't know if it's the same. Best advice go on eBay, and do like I did, find the cheapest dealer used wiring book for 1999, your gonna need it if you keep your SUV. I only paid like $8.00 delivered for mine. As far as if you still have a problem after, cross that bridge if/when you come to it. You sometimes have to fix one problem to find another. Welcome to the fun of diagnosing cars/truck's.

That I couldn't tell you. I was thinking after my last post, why not just go by a local pick and pull or whatever wreckers you have reasonably close and yank out a harness section you need. It should unlplug . It sure would be easier than trying to figure out what your past owner did. I'm all for easy, plug and play is the ticket. Are you sure your 4r100 that's in there matches your year? That might be part of the problem, if some Yahoo shoved in a different year, and tried to jury rig the harness. And yes my 2000 is 4wheel drive, although here in San Francisco I only activated it once to be sure it worked. We only get snow once every 10 years if that.

The Ford Expedition 5.4 L 4x4 Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness should all be the same for 1999 - 2002. Part# XL3415525P260G

The hardest part will be removing the bolt holding the harness on the back left top corner of the engine.

I may have this harness laying around. Double check with the dealer.
